His body language has been off for a while. You can always tell when players start getting too big for their boots. If we need money to comply with the increasingly corrupt rules - and someone offers £100m - then I’d reluctantly take it. A sulky arrogance has replaced his initial youthful focus & energy.

He’s a brilliant player and been a very successful signing and we’ll make a shed load of money from him at some point. He will be extremely tough to replace, so we’re going to have to find another gem.

I don’t think he’s got attitude problems, just simply out of form. Players have ups and downs. He found it very tough when McGinn and Tielemans were out, suddenly the emphasis is all on his shoulder and it was easy for the opposition to double up on him as we lacked quality.

Even though he can be frustrating, I’ll certainly miss him if he’s not around next year. He brings so much to the side.

Frankly bemused by this thread, on several levels, not least with it coming in the wake of one of the best European away results in our history.

First of all, I find the contrasting atmospheres in the Rogers and Buendia threads to be striking, as I thought they had very similar games last night. They were bellwethers for the team – both pretty poor when we were sub-par as a team, especially in that 15-20 minute spell when we were very much under the kosh. And both much more productive in the 25 minute spell that we dominated after the second goal. They both had a couple of efforts from the edge of the box, with Buendia missing his and Rogers putting one over and the other drawing a decent save from the keeper (on a side note, as I thought there were better options than the shot on that chance, it came across to me that he was desperate to get on the scoresheet – not the posture of a player who can't be bothered; the lad chasing back on 85 mins to tackle and get a slightly harsh yellow, he looked bothered to me).

Secondly, we know from very recent experience (i.e., last October to January) that Rogers is our "difference maker" but that (from August to September), that that mercurial talent can be hit and miss. Keep the faith; if we are to finish with a trophy and CL qualification this season, we will be needing him.

Lastly, in what circumstances might we consider selling him this summer?

Absolute nonsense.

Indeed. Anyone who has watched Rogers over a period of time will realise he’s really good and has been central to a lot of best play. He might be going through a form dip, but he’s excellent and that’s also why he draws interest from other clubs.

We might come out of this ok, and we might need to do it, but selling him is not a positive. Anyone saying it is is probably doing the psychological defence thing.

Selling him might not be the (financial) magic bullet everyone hopes, mainly because the replacements - assuming two players come in - will be on big bucks too, so the wage ratio doesn’t chance much and only 33% (or whatever) goes into the books.

Somehow we need to sell a high paid player for a decent profit and replace them via the youth set up. The best I can think of Bogarde replacing Onana.
