Rogers was brilliant helping out the defence in the first half, any talk of selling him is pure madness.

I thought he had a very poor second half, but the team’s performance as a whole didn’t help.

Don’t sell him. No matter the price. For starters, I don’t back Unai to find a replacement. His hit rate so far is one player. This one.

I think he probably should be sold to rebuild the squad, but you have hit on the problem and the reason I do not want a rebuild. Emery is personnel man is sub-standard and, because as manager he needs to win now, he buys players that will do this without looking to the future nearly enough. It is a difficult balancing act, but the purchases/loan-to-purchase of Guessand, Elliot, Diaby, etc. suggest that his eye for players that suit his system is not as keen as one might like. I love Unai, mind, but it is a concern.

He was absolute magic first half, as good as I've ever seen him. Second half he can be forgiven for not showing his usual class. Had to cover the whole front line at times and tracked back as ever when needed.

No one wants to sell him, we just know the reality. He's the best English player in the league at the moment, he almost certainly has a release clause in his contract and if we're not in the Champions League next season, he's highly unlikely to want to stay.

I thought he had a very poor second half, but the team’s performance as a whole didn’t help.

He came over to the right alot more to replace Bailey's work against Hall and Barnes and was also playing deeper. We know from last season he seems less assured when playing in that position. It also meant Thiaw and Burn only had to mark Tammy which pretty much took him out of the game as well.

Found this thread half way down page 3, last post on the 15th of February. Was that the last time he had a decent game? He's been shocking since, endlessly giving the ball away, running around like he's playing football in the playground, anybody who had seen him earlier this season would think he's got a very lucrative move lined up but he needs to bring down the price to make it happen.

Other than blaming the absence of our midfield three, anybody care to explain what the hell has happened to his form?

This is how he was playing at start of the season when he got jeered. We don't work without him specially as Malen is not here and Watkins takes to the pitch with his shoelaces tied together.

You may not have noticed but the other two have been highly questioned, young Morgan is Telfon despite him giving the ball away more times than Watkins and Buendia combined.* I just wondered what others thought, you know..discussion? ;)

*I made that up but it could be true, it probably is true and even if it's not, it's probably close to the truth.

I know. I think when you're trying to carry the team, and just don't have the option to pass the ball to someone who will either pass it back or do something useful, you just try and do it all yourself. And that's just not sustainable. He's trying his best.

I think there are a few factors:
1. he's being overplayed.
2. he's lost the supportive impact of Tielemans, particularly, and McGinn for the middle part of the season.
3. the loss of Kamara has meant we've been defending more than we'd have liked , meaning Rogers getting sucking into defensive duties.
4. the team's weak ahead of him: we haven't had an out ball for him.
5. other teams have been giving him much more attention since Xmas.

Imagine if Rogers had had a fit Ramsey and Elliott in the team, alongside him: he'd be flying still, and Watkins might have regained his form as well. Both Ramsey and Elliott know how to look after the ball in a way that we are simply not doing well enough at the moment, and we could have ridden out the loss of Tielemans, SJM and Kamara with these two playing well.
We massively screwed up with the reliance on Guessand and Sancho - and spent inordinately on these two, too - and bringing Bailey back into the matchday squad has further weakened the whole structure.

I realise that this is all hindsightism and speculation, but it's massively annoying to see the self-harm of last summer being played out.

This season is following the route of last.
Brilliant upto Christmas with a massive dropoff just after. He did eventually came good again towards the end of the season.

The biggest issue for me is that his is not a general drop in standards. There is no middle ground. When he is off it, he is monumentally shit.

Hopefully with Mcginn back and Tielemans on the horizon, he can play his way back into form.

Think he's been worse than Buendia of late. Can't trap a ball to save his life and shooting technique gone to pot.
