Great away trip, we went over via the chunnel back in 2016. Some roadtrip and a great one for history
buffs with the Menin gate nearby.
Lille is actually quite a bit closer to me than Villa Park.

I wonder where you are based then........  ???

That tweet was sent before the draw was made.

We were still the best team at the start of the draw.

It followed a tweet asking who fans wanted drawn so at a guess they were following up replies stating it won't be Aston Villa. Later, after the draw, they tweeted out we were "too afraid".

In my personal opinion i dont go with the narrative that there is "a favourite" just a group of teams that should win it which includes us. I think that kind of implies that rest of the sides are not good. I mean why are fiorentina not favourites? They have more experience than us in this competition, have a straight forward route to the final and both of their games are home 2nd leg if they get to semis.  They also lost last season in final so they will want to wrong that.

Massive advantage of having 2nd leg at home

We're by far the best team in the competition and are rightly favourites to win it.

Who said they're shit? They're just not as good as us by any measure. Of all the teams in the competition, we're the one nobody wants to play.

We're 4th in the hardest league in the world. Of course we're favourites.

If only we had a manager with a proven track record in Europe.

And better players in every position. Then we'd be favourites

https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2024/march/16/LOSC-Lille-ticket-details--first-leg-/

Pravda says that tickets for the home leg are on sale, but when I click the 'Buy Tickets' icon, all that's available is Wolves and Brentford

EDIT......I see further down the page, that tix aren't on sale until Monday.....so why have a 'Buy Tickets' icon ?

Just checked on Google Maps and it's saying driving would take 5hrs 38 min. That astounded me.

Not including the ferry? I just did the same.10.5 hours and 1100km. And I live in France.*

*Just about as far away from Lille as you can get on the mainland.

If I use the tunnel, I can  be in Lille in about 3.5 hours, 4 tops from home.  No chance of a ticket though.  Any update on out away game at Arse?  Surely they have to move it?  I'm off to that one in the home end with my son-in-law to be!

You have forgotten to factor in Operation Brock.

Had the 7 month old granddaughter in my arms singing Villa when the draw was made, proud as punch

7 months? You are happy to inflict this misery that we endure on infants? You evil, evil bastard.

It could be worse. After the small heath result yesterday, I started the sentence to my 13-year old daughter ‘Just think, if I was a Blues fan…’ I was going to say ‘we’d have been down there today watching that instead of watching us thrash Ajax the other night’, but she was too busy throwing herself around on the settee pretending to vomit at the first bit of the sentence.

I'm quite happy we're playing a big(ish) side. I honestly couldn't tell you right now, the name of the team we played in the groups where McGinn scored an injury-time winner. I had to wrack my brain to recall which Dutch shithouses we played and Legia Warsaw.

But Ajax are legends in the game. Yep, absolutely dreadful compared to even fairly recent history, but it's still Ajax.

Lille won the league 3-4 years ago if I recall. 5th at the minute. So it's a decent tie. You want European nights to be exciting and have some kind of opposition. Bring em on, then Fiorentina. There's some reasonable sides left.

And yeah, it would be a chance wasted not to win this.
