No away fans

That's the thing about it. If you'd come from the Aston or Trinity Road sides of the ground you wouldn't have seen anything out of the ordinary except wondering why the away section was empty.

That’s what it was like for me.

As kick off approached, I commented that maybe all the Legia fans planned to take their seats at the same time as some kind of display of strength/unity. Especially as the stewards in the away section were told to stand up about ten to eight.

When no fans entered, I ended up texting PWS to find out what was going on.

A Polish woman I worked with about 4 years ago contacted me a couple of weeks ago out of the blue, asking me if I could get tickets. She admitted that she already had 3, but needed another 2.

I politely refused to help because I didn't know who would be in those seats. I don't know if I would have been able to get any even if I was willing. It does make me wonder if that's how so many Legia fans got into the home areas.

One of the police commanders said it was the worse they'd seen in 28 years in the force. That's probably where they took it from.

So not at VP then.
But for WMP in 28 years?  I know it looked bad on Thursday night.  But the pictures we saw were mainly at a gate at the car park with about 20 police holding them back.  Bad as it was it didn’t seem that bad.  Can only assume there was more trouble that wasn’t filmed.

Assuming he has been at WMP all that time and not just within multiple forces, the only thing that might have run it close is the Birmingham riots in 2011. But I'm guessing the flares and the injuries involved, plus the viciousness of some of what they did might be it. He isn't the only one stating it is the worst they have seen, that independent advisor on hooliganism stated similar.

He joined the police in 95 and it is the worst he has seen since he joined. Not that there was a specific match in 95 that was worse.
