No away fans
« on: November 30, 2023, 08:55:58 PM »
So with WMP completely messing up tonight, I wonder what will happen next. We'll get a portion of the blame as it's our match. While Legia fans have a nasty element keeping them kettled on Witton Lane for hours and refusing them entry is piss poor. And tbh i'm not surprised they've reacted to that. I wonder if we'll get any punishment, both for this or future games as it seems WMP, us, and the city are incapable of coping.

Also, I can't think of any previous examples where all the away fans were refused entry into a ground in England.

It'll be fine, the away fans have been throwing bottles into the ground and have injured coppers. I'm not saying it's been handled well but it won't be difficult for authorities to find cover for us given the Legia fans behaviour

You've only got to see what happened to the Liverpool supporters in Paris to see there's no way the police are getting the blame.

This'll be on the Legia fans. Don't think they're solely at fault here, but they're the ones that'll feel the consequences IMO.

It doesn't look great, you wonder to what degree WMP set the tone by reducing the ticket allocation and then bringing in the horses and dogs in such numbers.

However, at the same time, we don't know what sort of provocation they've been under.

It's just a shame that, regardless of what has gone on and who started it, there will be a lot of people who haven't done anything wrong, treated like they have, and not allowed to enter the ground tonight.

Does anyone know why WMP kept them in the car park?

Also none of it has happened in the stadium, we will be fine

Think I might give the next game in Warsaw a miss, if we ever draw them again.

Also - you don't blame them for their reaction?l and how is the city to blame, exactly?

It sounds like they were only supposed to be kept there for a bit but they started throwing stuff at the police, injuring 3, and the decision was taken to just not let them in.

Be interesting to see the after game time line, were they kettled because they’d caused aggro, or caused aggro after being kettled for hours? And it looks like they haven’t even done a good job of kettling them as 30 or so are chucking stuff into the ground.

Let’s face it, WMP have treated us like shit on enough occasions. And yes, a crying shame for the ordinary fans who have wasted time and money to stand in a freezing car park.

The police will state that letting the fans into the ground in the mood they were in and tension already created would put at risk home fans in the stadium. They’ve used a broad brush approach and impacted supporters who had nothing to do with this. But a big part of this is the “ultras” phenomenon who go with the specific desire to present a threatening environment in numbers.

From BBC WM

Quote
West Midlands Police said fans of the Polish side were not being allowed into the stadium after objects were thrown at officers.

The force urged people to avoid Witton Lane if possible.

Aston Villa said supporters who had tickets for R block had to access the stadium via the Upper North (T Block turnstiles) and were directed by AVFC Staff.

Earlier Legia hit out at Villa publicly for what they described as restrictions on the number of tickets for away fans.

Witnesses on X, formerly known as Twitter, said they had seen several people be arrested outside the stadium and areas of Villa Park had been damaged with various items being thrown.

Where did I say I don't blame them? I said I wasn't surprised. And after being kettled outside for hours and then refused entry having spent money on tickets and travel it doesn't surprise me they've reacted.

What was the arrangement for their fans to pick up their tickets?  Where were they to go for their tickets?  And at what time?
