Just wondering when West Midlands Finest (now in special measures) were holding planning meetings and they decided to restrict the ticket alication for Legia fans; did anybody stand up and say:

Being as intelligence tells us at least 2,000 are travelling what do we do if they all turn up at the turnstiles?

From what's happened tonight it looks as if nobody did.

From what I've read we put a big screen up for them knowing loads wouldn't be getting in so it sounds like the authorities planned for it but the reaction wasn't as expected so what else are they supposed to do .

In mitigation, do we know how many travelled from Poland and how many were already in the country? And how much advanced knowledge of travelling numbers would WMP even have?

You may be able to control numbers going in and out of the stadium, but you can't stop people from converging outside.

It reminded me a little of the Rapid Vienna game, when groups of theirs were walking out of Tesco with trolleys of beer, not paying. I overheard a bit of a row between the manager and a security guy who said, "when there are 5 of us and 200 of them, what do you think we can do?!"

Their intention was obvious, they were going to force entry, as they did at Alkmaar. WMP stopped them, so they attacked the Police.

I can only imagine what might have happened to us in Warsaw as we were held for 2 hours after the game. The police were definitely ready and waiting to get stuck in.  It was very moody but luckily the Villa fans behaved as grown ups and it passed of peacefully. The Legia fans came looking for trouble and seemed to think that bringing numbers without tickets should be a reason to be let in. It's a shame really, because the atmosphere would have been great with them inside the ground.

Agreed. Not saying the police always perform admirably when covering football (to say the least) but a substantial number of Legia fans seemingly wanted to prove a point using weight of numbers as their leverage.

If that is the case, I'm glad they were locked out, the silly wankers. I hope the decent fans who just wanted to watch the game are reimbursed by their club.

Thats also pretty impressive solidarity (see what I did there) for absolutely no-one to go in the ground with a ticket.

i imagine you have to be of a  certain age group to get the pun...very good though

What I don’t get is the club saying they limited away tickets because they could not get Legia to co-operate concerning their fans turning up without tickets.
What the hell were Legia supposed to do?
