However i'm really not sure that the best course of policing to try and diffuse any potential issues is kettle them for hours in a car park on a freezing cold night and then not let them go to the ground, and then ban them completely from entering the ground.
I’m not going to jump to any conclusions given that I have literally no knowledge about what has gone on, but this does seem like collective punishment. If I was travelling abroad with Villa, I’d be disappointed if I was punished for the actions of a small minority of other Villa supporters.

They were refusing to go in anyway, due to not getting a full allocation.

There you go.
Club refuse to communicate with us. Too many turn up, obviously plenty without tickets, police say no go. Fans (probably without tickets) get pissed off, throw things at nasty police. Police decide not to let anybody in. Game over. Villa win 2-1. Legia get a nasty letter from UEFA. Legia ignore it as they're shit scared of those naughty ultra kids hiding their faces in black, man made fibre knitwear.

It sounds like they knew this would happen if you read the Villa statement, I’d be aiming my ire at Warsaw personally.

You've only got to see what happened to the Liverpool supporters in Paris to see there's no way the police are getting the blame.

This'll be on the Legia fans. Don't think they're solely at fault here, but they're the ones that'll feel the consequences IMO.

The police and UEFA got all blame eventually for that CL final. AVFC far too quick out with the club statement backing the local constabulary imo

As we know full well the police version of events re football supporters can always be relied upon.

Maybe because i'm old I still distrust football police, especially SYP and WMP. Either way I still think it could have been dealt with a lot better.

Difference being that the CL final wasn't hundreds of fans attacking the cops or fans throwing bottles at fans in the stands was it. Not for one second do I just think the cops are in the right here but Warsaw had reduced numbers due to previous behaviour and have ended up bottling and attacking police and home fans.

‘To join our Ultra group, we require you to travel 1500 miles to stand in a car park for hours in sub zero temperatures, then get nicked for throwing traffic cones’

Tough sell that.

They became a different beast as a joy division.

My son was in the AZ Alkmar club shop and the guy behind the counter told them that the Legia 'fans' caused a load of trouble when they were there and are now effectively banned from the area.

Exactly that.
I find it very unlikely that every fans was engaged in acts of violence against the police and it’s more likely to me that some were just here to see a game and have been denied that because of a few knobheads. We hear about this loads on away travels against England fans and we dish it out here now it seems.

The club thought it was highly likely this was going to happen. UEFA knew aswell. They and the police were on the front foot due to anticipating ticketless Warsaw fans would be trying to force entry, causing trouble so they got rushed off the streets and into the ground. That sounds like what panned out.  First bit I know for sure, the rest is my reading of what happened knowing the first bit.

They were refusing to go in anyway, due to not getting a full allocation.

Legia fan phoned up TalkSport and basically admitted that they were trying to force Villa/The Police to let 2000-3000 fans in by force of numbers.

I think they miscalculated their negotiating position, and thought that force of numbers would make WMP back down and allow the allocation they thought they were "entitled" to.
