I saw the clip on Twitter, it's horrendous. Charging him with manslaughter seems entirely the right decision, imagine the Eric Cantona kung fu kick, but with sharpened blades on his feet.

That sounds horrendous.
Totally different to how I imagined it happening.

It certainly didn’t look remotely accidental.

When I first heard about it I assumed the fella was down on the ice and a skate caught him and that it was just one of those tragic things that can happen. Then I saw the video and he was standing up and while I doubt the outcome was intended it certainly wasn't just 'one of those things'.

The mitigating factor is that milliseconds before it happened, the accused player was barged and could claim he raised his leg to recover his balance, but as I said, to raise his foot that high seemed unnatural and malicious.

I'm a bit puzzled here.

A manslaughter arrest and yet the other player involved in the incident played last night an received a standing ovation.

Am I missing something ?

Wasn't the ovation at the weekend?

EDIT. From the papers, Petgrave given standing ovation on 12.11.23. Man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter 14.11.23

I don't know enough about the sport to give a clear opinion of it to be honest. I've (very unfortunately) seen the video and whilst it does look bad, its difficult to know what intent was there
