I know, and that's what I meant! Why is it different? Our manager's Basque, our team has French, Italian and many other nationalities in it, and they play regularly in an incredibly multinational league, in which most of the coaches are from outside the UK. I just don't see what the difference is, particularly.

European competition is different to domestic. The atmosphere is different, the intensity and/or hostility of some sets of fans is different, the pressure or expectation or just pure excitement of it for players who've never experienced it. There's also the different preparation for it, having to travel, having to play twice in a week.

I know some people don't rate the competition or think it's only 3rd tier, but it's still a different kind of experience, one some of our team have never had. So it's no harm to have several players that can come into the squad and not be overawed or distracted by it all.

Apart from, I think, Konsa, JJ and Marschall they've all played in European competition or full internationals. I doubt they'll be shitting themselves over a tifo and some pyro.

*Technically* Konsa has.

45 minutes in the second leg against Hibs for us.

Knockout round experience is useful, sure, especially given that in European competition you think about it differently due to the two-legged ties.

But at this stage, I really think it's of limited importance. They've all played in front of mental fans, they've played two games in a week, and yeah it's a novelty but once the whistle blows it's a game of football. I think the point would be relevant if we were against Milan, but I'm not sure it does here - not to belittle the competition, but it's just not the same level as going to the San Siro.

I'm not saying the players who haven't experienced it would shit their pants, I'm just saying it's useful to be able to make changes to the starting 11 using players who have had experience in European competition.

Best to see Tielemans start in a reasonably string line up. The changes at the back again may be a concern: I would prefer to see continuity in the defensive 4.

I think part of the defensive issue is that with the injuries he needs to be able to give players like lenglet and Chambers minutes, we'll definitely need them this season so have to start putting them in at some point

Let’s hope he ropes them in and ties a few up in knots
