19 passes from the point where Diaby wins it back in midfield but more than the passes it's really interesting to watch the players off the ball, there's almost always a a couple of options for the pass and every time a player gets the ball people are instantly moving into space for him, this is what a properly coached team looks like after years of us watching players looking around desperate for someone to create an angle for them.

I remember Robbie Keane getting pissed off with the lack of movement off the ball. It's only taken 11 years.

We just finally look like all those teams I've been jealous of since the latter days of MON.

A real Brazil 1970 feel about it.
People watching Brazil 1970 for the first time have been known to say "It's just like watching 2023 Aston Villa".

Yep. MOTD only showed the move from the pass forward to Kamara immediately before the goal. Unbelievable; were they really that pushed for time?

It was a peach by any standard and what I enjoyed the most was Unai's unbridled joy when it went in.

Absolutely. Not comparing the two in terms of their tactics, knowledge and planning, but the reaction was very 'early MON'.

Yes, MON only had one plan all of the time, and Unai has probably hundreds of plans within plans per game, but the celebration felt alike because there was no surprise there. No fan-like "oh fuck yeah!" as under Bruce or Lambert or whoever.

It was mapped out, we did it, and the celebration had that real conviction to it, like 'yep, that worked EXACTLY as I wanted'.

If, in some future iteration of reality TV, I had to have an operation performed on my scrotum by a blind surgeon equipped with a breadknife, but was allowed one person to direct proceedings, I'd pick Unai.

I would figuratively and literally put my balls in his hands.

I noticed this as well. I was very disappointed, particularly as I had told friends who support other teams to watch out for all the passes in the goal.

The longer we stay out of the limelight the better. All the talk of the geordies being title contenders based on one win looks a bit off the mark now. I'd rather we keep on doing our thing and we can enjoy it for a long time before the hangers-on start to appear.
