Edinburgh Travel plans
« on: August 21, 2023, 08:52:01 PM »
So, those of you going to Edinburgh how are you travelling? I am catching the train on Wednesday morning  from New Street at 10:08.
Sitting in carriage B seat 52.

If you’re on that train come and say hello, I will be wearing a trench coat, sunglasses, trilby hat and carrying a copy of Times tucked under my arm.

Anyway hope your planned travel goes well.

I'm driving up tomorrow. This will be the 2nd time I've combined taking a good lady to Edinburgh with a Villa game. Easter Road a bit closer than the Stadium of Light mind.

Can recommend Brewhemia for a beer and food, a bit like Alberts Scloss. Not cheap, but nice atmosphere. It’s up near the entrance to the Edinburgh Dungeon.

Carry on up a bit further and there is a Brewbog bar, also decent and the food is alright too.

Train Wednesday morning, half eight from Wolverhampton. Two kids in tow, no match tickets, stopping one night, under instruction to bring back honey. Thankfully with the early kick off we'll hopefully be able to watch it in a pub that does food and be out before the 8 o'clock kid shutout. Just need to find a pub...

I read that almost as 'blimey that's what you call commitment, getting the train from Wolverhampton'.

As with many things throughout my life, it will likely be archived in the file marked "Seemed like a good idea at the time."

I don't see the point personally but safe travels.

Haha yeah got the t-shirts , Edinburgh is a beautiful city , if the game starts going pear shaped you can have a nice walk down the Royal Mile and the castle etc

I haven't been for a while but I don't think central Edinburgh pubs are particularly kid-friendly.

If it’s in the day then the Wetherspoons at the train station is fine, cheap meals and free Wi-Fi as well as the usual cheap beer

Each to their own obviously, but why would anyone travel four hours on the train to end up at a Wetherspoons at the train station?!

Reminds me of when me and the lad went up to Edinburgh to not see the Foo Fighters - Grohl had had his accident. We'd already booked flights etc. Its a great city though, always worth a look round.

The Hanging Bat does smoked pork kind of stuff, should that be your bag. Also The Bow Bar (or Cloisters) for whisky and old-school atmosphere. Opposite the Bow you can also get a sandwich from Oink, which you should.

Good pubs up around Easter Road too, generally good vibes towards that Leith/Meadowbank sort of confluence.

Envious of you all.
