If it’s in the day then the Wetherspoons at the train station is fine, cheap meals and free Wi-Fi as well as the usual cheap beer
Spoons don't show the football though

The old town has a mass of pubs too, try Buddy Mulligans as I think they show football usually. For the kids there is the Harry Potter/magic shop near there too

Edinburgh is probably my favourite city centre in the UK, been there loads over the years for work and social reasons. Not sure about bars to watch football in but just generally great pubs in Grassmarket and the Royal Mile, the Whiski Bar is really nice. In the new town the Cambridge Bar is nice and for any old Rebus fans, the Oxford Bar, is a tiny old relic of former days. Never sampled Leith so not sure about there. Towards the main train station they have some outdoor bars that sell street food and beer so if its sunny its worth a pop down there. They were there last summer anyway.

My 13 year old son is mad to go to a Euro away day this season, we’re season ticket holders, but because of well discussed issues with away ticket allocation we have little chance of getting tickets I think. He wanted me to take him up to Edinburgh anyway, but we’re off to Westport in the west of Ireland for the bank holiday weekend, so no chance of doing both.
Enjoy the sites of lovely Edinburgh all those going up.

My main football hangout was always the Doctors near Bristo Square, hope it's still going.

Train Wednesday morning, half eight from Wolverhampton. Two kids in tow, no match tickets, stopping one night, under instruction to bring back honey. Thankfully with the early kick off we'll hopefully be able to watch it in a pub that does food and be out before the 8 o'clock kid shutout. Just need to find a pub...
City Centre?  Black Bull, Grassmarket.  Kids OK before 8pm as long as you're getting food - will definitely be showing it :)

Depending on the kids age, Mary's Milk Bar over the other side of the grassmarket does lovely ice cream

Surely you’ll all be heading to the Athletic Arms (The Diggers) to imbibe several pints of Heavy, No?

I love The Diggers.  For about a year, me and my mate used to do a Saturday night pub crawl starting off at The Moat on Slateford Road, then going Gray's Mill, The Shandon, Caley Sample Rooms, Diggers, The Fountain, McCowans, then either stumble home or go disco dancing.  Always moved from beer to whisky in Diggers, they've got (or at least, had) an ace selection.

Tried the same thing of going in to every pub on Gorgie Road on the way to town once ... never again.

Leave him alone, he’s clinically fed up. Boohoo.
