We did to Everton what top sides have been doing to us for years. Turned up, rolled them over and tickled their bellies, all while rarely leaving second gear.

We're just missing Emery saying what a good side they are now, and what a great manager Dyche is, the way Ferguson always used to do to us after Man U had won 3-0.

The term ‘funeralling’ is a bit edgy and can be funny if not overused, as after all death comes to us all. I suppose the watch out is that it could be a sensitive term to different people at different stages of their lives.

I’m not sure anybody on here is a slick enough comedian to find the right balance on using the other terminology we’re discussing without coming across as pretty insensitive to something that should never happen. Particularly as this (I’m guessing) is a largely male audience.

It was routine. We controlled it without really ever having to exert ourselves. Not a feeling I’m used to in the last few years!  Everton were appalling. Calvert Lewin is made of glass, and as much as we love Ashley Young, you can see today why it’s the right decision to move on. We exposed him very easily all game with pace and power.

Not Ollie’s best day but he always seems to start a season slowly, I’d play him against Hibs with the aim of getting him off the mark and getting his confidence going again.

I know it’s the rules but the 9 minutes at the end today was unnecessary and in games like that is only going to cause injury. Needs a rethink quickly.

It only exists as a verb on H&V as far as I know. If people are going to get upset about it then we may have to stop using terms such as 'batter' too. Indeed, even 'beating' a team or traffic could trigger someone who has been subject to physical violence if we think about it.

Crikey!

18 minutes of added time, that's adding on another 20% of the original time. If that's become the norm, a 50 match season will in effect become a 60 match season. I reckon 90% of the Everton fans were past Stafford Services by the time the final whistle blew.

I think we might be agreeing.

Although I’ve heard the term in lots of places outside of here. One of my seven a side team mates used to use it regularly.

There were strong 'Villa 2015/16' vibes when Calvert-Lewin went off and gave the ironic thumbs-up to the visiting fans, who were giving him the bird.

I think it's possible to go too far in the sensitivity stakes. Let's be honest, nobody's going to be upset about the use of 'funeral' as a transitive verb, and if they are, they shouldn't be.

Most damning thing about Everton is how many of their players would you want in this squad? Pickford in place of Olsen and then it's a bit of a struggle.
I'd probably take Danjuma. He was their only ray of hope today.

Maybe Onana too.

It was used on here by somebody for whom English wasn't their first language to describe us beating somebody very easily, and its use is a gentle and humorous homage to them.

Maybe he knew Sarunyu.

If anyone gets upset over it then we'll have to lay our fists all over them.

Onana played some lovely long passes in the first half, but soon descended to their overall level. I thought that Danjuma looked shite, we dodged a bullet there.

I have seen a couple of posts on this site saying along the lines of "We are going to funeral Everton"

I think thats in bad taste too.
Well, it is not really. It is a figurative expression which was used by an erstwhile, and very likeable poster called 'Sarunyu' whose English seemed to be that of the Southeast Asian variety.* On this forum it has become an amusing synonym for 'battering' or 'murdering' a team. Really nothing that should get anybody all offended. Unlike talk of rape of course.

* He/she/they would write stuff like  "I am sure we will funeral Bolton because we have Mellberg who is hard in the taggle." And stuff like that.
That said, I have no qualms whatsoever in saying that we comprehensively funeralled Everton today.
