Re the low transfer fee, saw a comment elsewhere suggesting his contract contained a downward sliding scale release clause. £80m after his first year at Villa, £50m last summer and now £35m.

The fee quoted on iTV News last night was £36m, so this makes sense.

I heard something that he had a £72m release clause that decreased by £18m each season.

It does, except 72 isn't a multiple of 18

I wish he hadn't gone to Man U and obviously hope they do not do well.

But some of the reactions are a bit too strong for me.  A fantastic player for us who did as much as any player to deliver us European football and a trophy.  In my opinion, he goes down in a list of all-time top Villa players in my lifetime.
