It is absolutely nuts, and I actually find it heartwarming as they've clearly not learned any lessons.
Most footballers aspire to have a career. Then they aspire to play at the highest level they can. Then they aspire to play for the biggest most famous clubs (and sometimes for the biggest and best managers). There's a handful that pretty much every footballer would want to play for in their career. Real Madrid Barcelona Bayern Munich Liverpool Man Utd. You could potentially add in Juventus and Milan but the football is a bit shit in Italy these days. If you're offered a massive, lucrative and lengthy contract by one of them you'd be daft not to take it.
