Poor bastard would have been claiming UC if he'd stayed.

Question?  Would we be happy spending that on a 30year old and paying him £200k per week for 5 years? We know he can be great but that is financial madness

No. I can't blame him for taking that deal, but no way should we have matched it.

This got me thinking , even if we had no restrictions would we entertain those figures ?  i doubt it

Did he shed a tear as he said his goodbyes to the Bodymoor Heath staff and did he hug the canteen ladies. Did he even clear his locker?

He isn't the quickest player now, imagine him at 35! And best of luck shifting him out if he does drop off in form as he ages, when he is on £200k a week. It is insanity.

It is absolutely nuts, and I actually find it heartwarming as they've clearly not learned any lessons.

He’s a quality player if used right but if they continue playing their quick in the break stuff the game will pass him by. Their supporters - who are no doubt ignorant - seem underwhelmed by him.

They have learnt as previously they give 300k per week.

Most footballers aspire to have a career. Then they aspire to play at the highest level they can. Then they aspire to play for the biggest most famous clubs (and sometimes for the biggest and best managers).

There's a handful that pretty much every footballer would want to play for in their career.

Real Madrid
Barcelona
Bayern Munich
Liverpool
Man Utd.

You could potentially add in Juventus and Milan but the football is a bit shit in Italy these days.

If you're offered a massive, lucrative and lengthy contract by one of them you'd be daft not to take it.

Don't think anyone would ever forgo him the choice. It's a short career and he has a family to think about. Doesn't really change how I feel about it.

Contract was on the table and he shunned it. We're football fans, not being logical about these sort of things is part of the joy of it. I can understand and even appreciate his decision whilst also hoping they lose every game going forward.

Also footballers are anywhere between ten and fifty years younger than most of us posting on here - so I don't think will most would really see those bigger Italian teams as much of a draw at all. Youri's no spring chicken and was ten years when AC Milan last won the Champions League.

But the counter-point is that because of the age they've grown up in football, you can probably replace them with PSG and Man City. Annoyingly.

Honestly, if you're 29 year old footballer and someone offers you a 5 year, £50m contract, and you don't even have to move house, you take it.
