I just can’t get excited about these biennial Euros that clash with Olympic year, what were European Athletics thinking. Just a blatant cash in for the money. Go back to every 4 years imv.

At least Brum in 26 will be the proper version.

The Olympics should move, IMO. 776 BCE was the first one, there is no year zero... so stands to reason they should be in odd years, now. When Tokyo was delayed by a year, that was the ideal opportunity to correct it and start having them in the proper year.

I thought it was to keep up with the World Championships because there could be two editions of the Worlds in between editions of the European Championships. For example there were European Championships in 2002 and then World Championships in 2003 and 2005 before the next Euros in 2006.

I thought it was to keep up with the World Championships because there could be two editions of the Worlds in between editions of the European Championships. For example there were European Championships in 2002 and then World Championships in 2003 and 2005 before the next Euros in 2006.

The IAAF Another governing body cashing in by going biennial. If I was an athlete I’d tell them to piss off. We only need one version of each major championships every 4 years. It used to be great back in the day, Euros, Worlds, Olympics then a fallow year for setting World Records.

Ireland finish second to the Netherlands in the women's 4 x 400m. What a race though, 2nd to 6th places finished within 1.5 secs of the Dutch.

I wonder if Mawdesley didn't have to run the heat yesterday would she have pipped the Dutch girl at the end? But then again if she hadn't run it maybe we wouldn't have made the final.

Possibly, but the Dutch are World Champions and were firm favourites. Silver and a new national record by 2 secs is a good night's work.

No chance. Femke Bol is streets ahead. She was toying with the rest of the field.

There are some athletes getting to a level which could fill the marketing void left by Usain Bolt. Femke Bolt, Mondo Duplantis, Gianmarco Tamberi and maybe Mutaz Barshim, although him and Tamberi might be a bit too old in the long term.

Womens 800m is the most exciting event for me, 3 genuinely world class runners in Hodgkinson, Mu and Moraa who are all young enough to be around for the next or even 3 olympics after this. I suspect that competition will drive them to some pretty spectacular races, it's the big one this summer for me.
