When those 7 agonising minutes ticked over at Wembley just over 4 years ago now and the final whistle blew, I was happy, but also felt off. I wasn't elated and it felt more like a wrong being righted than an achievement.

Today it feels very special again. To follow us in Europe, I couldn't be happier. I've been out to celebrate with a pair of Stripey Filth and now I can't stop consuming every picture, video, comment. This is the universe now corrected. What a long and often tortured road it's been.

The song choices were apt. Reading away, Stoke away...a lifetime ago.

Villa Park is the most special place on Earth when it's like it was today. Deafening at times. Voice gone.

Felt we pressed them incredibly well, with Ramsey and McGinn stand outs. They're a soft bunch and couldn't wait to roll about feigning injury, but they're a good side and 2nd half they didn't lay a glove on us. JJ could and really should have had a hatrick.

But who cares! It's back. Roll on 24th August!

Just seen De Zerbi's post-match interview. He's officially been promoted to having the status of 'good lad' in my eyes. Not many people attain it, and it can quickly be revoked, but with these words he went up in my estimation.

(I'm paraphrasing) 'Aston Villa is a historic club. Villa Park is an amazing stadium. Emery is one of the most important coaches in the world. To finish one place above Aston Villa is an incredible achievement.' Fucking right it is, mate.

I didn't hear that.

You're not... you're not on the mushrooms again, are you?

The last place I would put myself if on mushrooms would be in front of a football manager's post-match interview.

It's at the end of this:

"And you've got some wonderfully suggestive hair around your mouth there. Is it because you're a wild-tongued vag-monster, or do you think that thing on your face actually looks okay?"

Missed the whole second half as no reception. Been working on California but took the family along so have the bank holiday to chill out. Nearly caused a row with my missus trying constantly to get phone signal to check the score. Only Villa can make a bbq on a boat stressful.

Celebrating now on a bar and very much looking forwards to next season.

Btw soccer is really starting to take off here. Lots of people stopped my 9 year old to talk about EMI Martinez when he had his kit on. Plenty of people bugging Villa up which is a change from normal. Come here three times a year an usuallt no one’s ever heard of us.

Watched Jansas City beat Portland 4-1 too (on the tv) standards improving here.

Anytime else's ears ringing this morning, like you've been to a gig?  Never heard noise like that in the Trinity ever.

  • This also will pass.

I thought the behaviour of the Brighton players was utterly disgraceful all game. Trying to compete and get something out of the match when they knew we needed the win to get into Europe. Bang out of order and I hope the FA come down on them like a ton of bricks.

I cant remember noise like that at the Villa ever. It’s nor just the Holte it was every stand and that team deserved it. Wonderful performance against a very good team. Unai has got them to a level but he’s also got a togetherness  in all the squad that I haven’t seen before.

Brighton played some lovely stuff going forward,  but i always felt we could really get at them when we had the ball ( which we did ).  Ramsey looked unplayable at times yesterday .  a great day

The noise when extra time started was phenomenal. The whole ground seemed to be standing up urging the players on. Haven't heard anything like that for years.

What a bloody fantastic day that was. The culmination of 6 months pure hard graft & dedication from everyone involved. Without any doubt we've earned it. The owners & Unai know what needs to be done now. Everything is now a possiblity.

Special mention to the Brighton fans for the most ridiculous chant I've heard in a stadium when singing "football in a library". Wow, the place was rocking.

Given it was essentially a free hit for them and the fantastic season they’ve had, the Brighton fans were very subdued.

Always liked him, clearly a man of taste.
