They are a nothing club, who have won fuck all for about 70 years, had 20k average attendances pre-90's yet are self proclaimed "amazing fans",  but I do enjoy beating them purely because of pure & utter deluded chumpish clueless twatting wankers like those on that thread... 🤣
To be fair we also had 20k average attendances pre-90s, that was just English football. The fact is that they have always been a relatively well supported club, albeit in a one club city. I agree that there is a media narrative that some clubs have amazing fans, and others don’t. It normally correlates with a stereotype about socio-economics, and not having much else to do, which is disappointing.
Newcastle are a phenomenally well supported side given the only people who can remember them winning anything are grandparent-age folk. I don't know much about the relative attendances in the 80s, but from what I can see they've been getting 50k+ crowds on a regular basis for 25 years.

The way they go on, they have always had huge numbers. Granted, they got them after their title challenge & Champs League exploits & fair enough, they kept most of them, but before that, they had shitty to average numbers.

And that is with them being the only club in their area.

How shit have we been recently & we have what, 15k - 20k waiting for season tickets?

The villa players should have given their shirts to the Newcastle supporters at the end of the match. Poor deluded topless Geordies.

They’d never have got them on the fat bastards.

Watched MOTD this morning. Full of praise for Villa and rightly so, but interestingly hardly said a word about how shit Newcastle were...

I’ve been watching Villa since 1975. I can not think of a more commanding, complete team performance.

Middlesbrough 81 for me, but yesterday was as good.

I don't think we have ever tried to pass ourselves off as the most loyal fans in all of football history based on attendances though...

Certain cities have always built up myths about themselves, Liverpool that it's got a particularly great sense of humour, Newcastle that it's got the most passionate supporters, London that it's the centre of the fucking universe or something.

But Birmingham never has. It's always been modest and self-effacing

Every time I've seen them they look like a limited, cynical, dirty if well-drilled Sam Allardyce side.  That's what they looked like yesterday too.  Villa are playing a whole level above that at the moment and like others, I don't think we've peaked.

Yep I was at that game. I remember Tony Morley absolutely terrorising them down the left. 3-0 was a massive underrepresentation of how one-sided the game was

I’m sure what he meant to say was Villa were superior in every area of the pitch and we were lucky not to have a lot more booked. Once he’s stopped crying I’m sure he’ll update us all.

Same timescale for me from the mid-70s

The Three Liverpool games
The 5-1 the 7-2 and the semi-final at Wembley all stick in the mind
But Yesterday was right up there for a perfect 90 minutes

Has anybody checked in on Andy “why can’t we all be football friends” Macfarlane?
