Single club city so bound to have numbers.
Newcastle has lower population than Stockport.

They are a nothing club, who have won fuck all for about 70 years, had 20k average attendances pre-90's yet are self proclaimed "amazing fans",  but I do enjoy beating them purely because of pure & utter deluded chumpish clueless twatting wankers like those on that thread... 🤣
To be fair we also had 20k average attendances pre-90s, that was just English football. The fact is that they have always been a relatively well supported club, albeit in a one club city. I agree that there is a media narrative that some clubs have amazing fans, and others don’t. It normally correlates with a stereotype about socio-economics, and not having much else to do, which is disappointing.
Newcastle are a phenomenally well supported side given the only people who can remember them winning anything are grandparent-age folk. I don't know much about the relative attendances in the 80s, but from what I can see they've been getting 50k+ crowds on a regular basis for 25 years.

Take away every other club with about sixty miles of Villa Park except one from a place where the locals won't have anything to do with Birmingham for reasons going back to the civil war, give us a fawning national media and see what gates we get.
Population 300,004 against 1.15m.

They also draw support from vast swathes of Northumberland where there are no other league clubs.  Morpeth, Ashington, Blyth, Hexham are all Newcastle supporting areas.

Their lowest average attendance in the top flight (since WWI) was just over 21k in 1988. Ours was 15k in 1986, 4 years after being European Champions. Man Utd or Liverpool have had the highest average attendance in England every season since 1964. Before that it was spread more evenly, and Newcastle featured heavily. Again, Newcastle is a one club city, but they are clearly relatively well supported.

As said by so many such a brilliant team performance yesterday leaving me struggling to think of one as good in recent times.
Amongst everything the speed of the pass and the incredible energy of everyone both on and especially off the ball as the way we hunted the ball down out of possession was sensational.
Thanks to the team and manager for such an amazing day.

The villa players should have given their shirts to the Newcastle supporters at the end of the match. Poor deluded topless Geordies.

Best performance, considering the opposition, I can remember for years. Every single player was exceptional. What a day.

I agree Des. My dad has been following Villa for 55 years and said the same thing.

Southgate’s advice would probably be “son, you’re doing ok, but to elevate your game, you need to move to a sky 6 team and sit on the bench. I remember when I wanted to take my career to the next level and went to Middlesbrough. It was the best thing I ever did. I’m not sure how the two correlate but I pick players on the pressure I might be get from the sky 6. So have a word with kalvin Phillips and Joe and get going. You know I don’t pick players on form.”

It's difficult to compare it with games of yore as it's a different game these days.  I'd say it was a performance better than anything I've seen in 15 years.  The 7-2 over Liverpool can't be comparable as none of us were there and anyway regardless of that scoreline where everything that was hit at goal went in this was a much more measured performance of dominance. We outplayed, outfought and out thought Newcastle in every aspect of the game.

If Emery's additions to the team next season are of the quality of Moreno then who knows where he can take us. Great time to be a Villan.  I'm more optimistic than when MO'N was in his peak with us.

Anyone notice that the scoreboard was still showing 2-0 after the disallowed goal and then Ollie scored the one that counted - so they left the scoreboard as it was. 3 minutes between the two 'goals'.

The babby pointed out that it still said 2-0 after the disallowed one, but in fact they’d changed it back to 1-0 by the time I looked. Then we scored.

I don't think we have ever tried to pass ourselves off as the most loyal fans in all of football history based on attendances though...
