With the injuries already, plus outgoings the squad looks way too thin for potentially 50 plus matches. A couple more injuries, and fatigue and the season could be ruined. I really thought the squad would have a much stronger look by this stage of the transfer window. Perhaps they'll sign a couple more before deadline day next Thursday?

We're fine in CM. Tielemans as sub, hopefully Donk will be an option soon and Ramsey will be back in September.

Surely we'll sign a defender if plan is to play Konsa as RB for some matches as then just Carlos and Pau as CB options is too thin for three games a week.

Upfront is interesting.

It dosen't look endless options but clearly UE believes in Duran and he's off the mark now in premier league so you'd like to think he'd score a few in europa league to continue to get his confidence up. I also think we'll see Diaby as a CF at some point in the season.

Would have Zaniolo and Bailey for wide forward positions and Ramsey will also be an option for LM given how well he ended the season there when he's fit again.

It's not endless depth but it's probably just enough to get through to middle of January although the constant selling of our decent young players does make the squad thinner.

Whoever we sign needs to stay fit. Paying players to lie on the treatment table is a recipe for losing games and money quickly.
I would love to know how the club can guarantee that.

Well they can't guarantee it obviously, but let's put it this way. If you'd signed Darren Anderton back in the day, it wouldn't have come as a shock if he spent half the time injured.

It's why I'd have reservations about someone like Chiesa.

And Zaniolo, for that matter.

It's not as if were signing a load of Darren Anderton's.

Because that's exactly what I said, is it?

Are we playing 50, 60 or 70 games this season?! They've all been suggested in the last page. I don't think its possible for us to reach 70, is it?

League - 38 games
Europe - 15 games if you get to the final
League Cup - 6 games if you reach the final
FA Cup - 6 games if you reach the final

Total games possible, 65 games.
The minimum now is 48. So somewhere between those two numbers. 50+ is certainly very likely.

17 European games if Villa finish second in their group and subsequently reach the final

Then why mention him? We've been unlucky with Mings and Buendia. Coutinhio was a risk. The new guy may turn out to be. Every player you sign might get injured.

It was simply an example to support my observation that if a player has a history of niggling injuries, it's not unreasonable to assume he will continue to have them. I was merely expressing the hope that we avoid signing those sorts of players.

An entirely innocuous point, I thought, but whatever.

But you did say 'whoever we sign needs to stay fit' which is no guarantee at all and then you throw in Darren Andertons name. Anyway, like said whatever.

We have a history of signing injured players. Paul Mcgrath and martin laurson worked out well. We also have a history of signing fit players Luc Nillis, I've Stass and Freddie Bouma that didn't go so well. You never know when an injury will happen.

Zaniolos agent still seems to be around Villa a lot from his Instagram. He's only got one other big client, who I'd love at Villa. Played and scored for Leeds today too.

Group winners go directly to Round of 16 and Runners up to a play off round with teams finishing third in their Europa League Group. Vital we win the group.

Gnonto I assume? I'd take him too.

Expect to see him on Pravda stretching the shirt by Monday, then.
