What about Hugo Lloris as back up keeper? Probably on big wages but wants to leave Spurs and Lazio have apparently dropped their interest.

I read today that he didn't want to go to Lazio to be a back-up.

I'd genuinely rather keep Olsen than take Lloris.

He's got lettuce hands.

The Donk is a decent player, if there's not an obvious better replacement out there I'd keep him. We have plenty of games and his physical presence is handy to have in the squad. I don't get any sense that Iroegbunam has surpassed him in Emery's thinking either.

Donk and Kamara can both play centre half, which might come in useful as the season progresses.

Up until a couple of weeks ago we looked in a very comfortable position on the transfer front but those two terrible injuries plus question marks around a few possibly moving on have left us needing a couple more I think. Be an interesting final week of the window.

With a week to go the rumour mill is very quiet.  I’m starting to think that emery likes a small squad and keeping everyone very involved.  In theory, I’m on board with that but even I’d say this is an extreme version.

Any idea how big the Villareal squad was when they won the Europa?

No way we go in with the squad we have. What's our actual outlay so far this summer? £85 ish million? To add 4. Then from sales, £45 ish. So a net spend of £40m. When you consider we were already in a good place with FFP on the back of Jack and Chucky going, I reckon there's either a couple of decent signings on the way, or we're playing the waiting game on a couple of major targets.

Yep, was thinking similar. I think that's it.

The squad is still 25 players deep though, with big Tim as the only one who you might call a 'youth' player. If Konsa is covering RB and we're not flogging Digne then I think the squad's looking alright. No Chelsea-style player hoarding, just the ones we need to do a job.

I see West Ham are after En-Nesyri from Sevilla…was impressed with him in the Super Cup game, looked a very decent striker, don’t know if that was an outlier of a good game but he’d fit our squad nicely on the basis of that game.

I know there is the whole Stevenage mistake, but shit happens. I honestly don’t think Donk has ever really let us down.

Right with the money coming back in from Cam and Aaron, and the associated FFP benefits, plus Digne apparently going then I really expect two/three good quality additions coming in. With those departures, particularly Digne and Cam, we feel light.
We're not getting 2-3 quality additions in a week.  It's just not the Villa way.  We'll finish the window a bit light in one or two positions leaving us feeling we should have done a bit more.

I was also of this view, but it was pointed out to me that the benefit of the Grealish money ends this season.  FFP is a rolling 3 year calculation so the Grealish money is off our books from next season, However we will still have the transfers Watkins, Traore, Martinez, Cash,  Buendia, Digne, Bailey, Carlos, Coutinho, Duran, Dendonker, Moreno & Olsen in our FFP calc next season assuming they were all ammortised over 5 years.   So even though our net spend is not that high, from an FFP perspective it's more marginal that we think.

I guess Sevilla didn't really want to sell him and I think they weren't happy with how we approached it, but it felt weird that they played him on Monday evening. I know he's their player until he's not, but most other teams seem to leave players out if they're that close to an exit.

What’s happened? Very highly rated young player, who I’m surprised we haven’t been linked with.

Reported to be off to KSA, and getting lambasted by Toni Kroos for it.
