With a raft of injuries currently, the club should'nt offload any first team players until a replacement is lined up. We are likely to have to play 50 plus games this season - you need adequate cover for a gruelling schedule.

Acuña possibly has a hamstring injury, Seville are assessing him today. May or may not change our plans.

It’s all about getting to Sept 1st with the squad Emery wants…with young Ramsey leaving, Davis & Philogene seemingly at the exit door - that’s 20m in then Cam maybe/maybe not leaving would surely be another 15m+ and proportion of Digne wages there could be a decent pot to get in another 1 or 2 that Unai wants to build that squad he wants.

Don't know if this has posted already: looks like Cameron Archer is off to Sheffield Utd on a permanent deal with a buyback option.

With these youth players leaving are we setting up space in FFP or rectifying an existing issue (i.e. are more coming in)?

According to this* surmising from Alan Nixon's Patreon (!) page, he's been saying that "Sheffield United will pay around £18m for Archer but like a lot of Villa’s latest outgoings, there will be a buy-back clause inserted into the deal. That means Villa will take Archer back for a fee above that £18m should United go down.

In essence, it’s like a complex loan deal on paper. However, should United stay up, then it does seem Archer will be a Blades player regardless.
The intricacies of the deal are yet to come to light but it appears United are ready to press on with this one."

I thought we needed so many homegrown players registered for the EUEFA Cup Matches?

If Archer is off I would imagine another striker is incoming unless Unai thinks that someone like Diaby could replace Watkins if he gets injured.

I'd be amazed if we didn't get someone else in. An experienced, top-level pro happy to play when called upon and will raise standards. Fernando Morientes or Olivier Giroud will do.

Is Morientes still around? He must be ancient by now. I used to buy him on Champ Manager.

Duran seems to be Watkins' understudy.

With the outgoings we have probably brought in the best part of £40m. Good for FFP and gives us more scope to spend. All this without weakening the squad, as between them the outgoings have had less than 10 PL starts.

Got to assume there's another striker coming in if Archer is off.

Fernando is probably fatter and late-forties now, but if we could do a time-machine thing or just get his 2023 equivalent, I'd be happy.

If Sheffield United go down, Villa will take Archer back for a fee of >£18m....? Surely a buy-back is at the discretion of the buyer and not dependent on Sheffield United's survival or not...

Anyone watched Nuno Tavarez in Ligue 1 last year? He seemed to be very erratic at Arsenal.
