You know you're in a good place when people are talking about upgrading quality players like Cash and Watkins though, like back when we used to have good sides and you'd think we could do better than Kevin Richardson or Garry Parker.

Ha ha.  That’s a very good point.  we are effectively picking holes in a player that was our POTY a couple of seasons ago (I think) and a guy that most think should be in the England squad.

It shows how much we have improved.

Romano linking us with Nuno Tavares. I know absolutely nothing about him.

Hope he's more than a woman.

Just curious, are people expecting our RB to have similar stats to the left back, as I don’t think that’ll happen under Emery’s system. Or is it cash’s defensive qualities that people question?

There is justification to replace cash but I think Emery will want a CB/RB hybrid rather than a right sided Moreno.

I have never been particularly convinced with Cash, and am becoming less so now Emery is here. Unlike practically every other player, we have not seen any improvement in Cash under Emery's tutelage. I think we need an upgrade. I think we have certainly been looking for one too, as we have had a few links with younger Spanish players that have fizzled out.

Agree with you though that I don't think we will see a Moreno type player come in at right back. Emery will want someone that suits his asymetric system. Indeed he has already suggested that much of the time a centre back might play there (shades of Martin O'Neall). With that in mind I think we see a utility player that can cover both positions signed. Perhaps though Emery thinks we have this already in Chambers, who has not been linked with any moves away from Villa.

I think the reason people are speculating on a more attacking style right back is that it would allow us to shift to the same asymetric system flipped round to attacking down the right and defending down the left. Not sure that will happen as we seem to be moving to two similar left backs. I also think we would have to vary the centre back partnership to achieve this, and rejig the midfield, so it would be quite disruptive.

I like Matty and thought he was good yesterday. He made so many clever runs, but more often than not Bailey didn't see them/use him.

If we can find a better player than Cash and sign him up, he's going to be excellent because Cash is pretty decent.
I agree, he is far from the worst player we have and I do not understand why he gets the criticism that he does.
Same for Digne yesterday he was excellent, bring in back up or alternatives but no need to dump or else you have the same predicament with no back up.

Digne was excellent yesterday.

If we can get £20+ million for him then fair enough, but a loan where we'd be funding some of the wages?  That's just plain nuts.

Was ruled out with illness on Saturday, Night Fever apparently.

To be fair, I don't think he is getting a lot of criticism. Right back is a bit of a talking point largely because we only have one, rather than because of the quality of Cash.  Of course most (including myself) would rather see the competition being an upgrade than an emergency back up (ala Olsen).

With Digne, I am more than happy having him as back up / competition. However if he is switched out for a player like Acuna on lower wages and a net positive ffp result then I can see the logic.

Yeah that would be really stupid, unless he is unhappy and pushing to leave.

Links to KSA make sense, but loaning to Nice doesn't. I can see why he would prefer staying on the same wage but moving to France, but I can't see why we would let him.

My point was if you ship out and do not bring in two replacements , one as cover you are not strengthening the squad.

Nice would be particularly strange given the INEOS bunch seem to have lost interest in pumping money into them as they have been for the last few years.

We got in Andy Townsend who was better than both!

Cash and Watkins need competition for their spots. Chambers/Konsa aren't competition for Cash. I think it's clear that Emery doesn't think Duran or Archer particularly are competition for Watkins.

Great to win yesterday but I think we need to quickly move on from it given how poor Everton were. We weren't remotely tested, reminded me of us under Garde/Black.

Forest apparently buying Sevilla's right back, Montiel, should see if we can get a 2-4-1 deal with Acuna!

Has Montiel sorted his ‘legal’ issue then? If so decent player, if not then not with a bargepole

Same. Can't very well be wagging the finger at ManU and then go inviting the same scrutiny in ourselves.

I do think that selling Digne with Moreno near to a return would probably be creating an avoidable problem
Yes but if Acuna is coming its ok.
