Maybe Martinez has had a word with the boss and has asked him to let him play in the cup for us instead of just the league. He wants to win a trophy with us, he said that after the World Cup. He won’t feel part of it if he’s playing second fiddle during the cup.

We should have a lot of Euro games to offer a good backup keeper this season. It's not the worst no.2 spot going. Kelleher at Liverpool can play the sweeper keeper system Emery likes and was looking for a move earlier in the summer.

Kelleher wanted a move to be #1 somewhere. We can't offer him any more gametime than Liverpool can.
Our former mistake and no 1 Nyland just gone to Sevilla as their back up keeper. Sevilla have Euro games I think. Goes on to show what you can get as back-up keeper for clubs with Euro games these days. I woudnt shift Olsen for Nyland. In fact Olsen aint that bad as second keeper IMO, he has had a mistake too often so far with us but also you can see (I think I do anyway) theres a potential there even in PL. I m much more stressed about lack of links to RB s. Then again Emery said in his presser I think that we would go with a CB there som of the games anyway so some relief there for me.
Tend to agree. We're going to struggle to find a 2nd choice goalkeeper where the drop off from Emi isn't huge, particularly as a team that hasn't competed at the highest level in Europe for 40 years - some time before any of the players we're aiming to attract were born.

IMO I'm fine with Olsen as back up keeper for now. If an upgrade is available on the cheap - great. But it's not something I'd get in a tizzy about.

The assumption from a lot of people seems to be that Olsen will play all games that aren't the league, basically. Obviously we don't know what the actual plans are, but that seems excessive and unfounded.

If I was making assumptions it would be that Martinez would be playing European and League games. Olsen will probably play Carabao Cup, and then FA Cup will be assessed game by game depending on opposition and other fixtures.

It's as likely Olsen will play a handful of games this season as it is he'll play 15to20. In fact I think it's far more likely that's all he'll play.

Leeds are looking to sell Meslier before the window closes. Didn't have a great end to last season, conceded 22 goals in 9 games in April, but was decent, I think, before Leeds went to absolute shit.

Meslier must be one of the most overrated keepers I've ever seen. Even at championship level he concedes cheap goals like the one WBA scored on Friday.

I think a good pick up would've been Matt Turner who's already looked good for Forest and was excellent for US in the World Cup.

Would assume there's someone in Spanish league who'd be o.k coming as number 2, I think Soria from Getafe was mentioned a few weeks back and he's solid enough.

Guiata refusing to play for Palace so I'd take him aswell as he's a reasonably solid keeper in most aspects.

So if we get a nice easy draw, of say a League Two side at home, Olsen will play as we shouldn't have too many problems with that.  Oh, hang on.

I get the point you're making there but I meant more that depending on what the league fixtures look like, and if we're still in Europe, it would be decided whether Martinez can play another game or if he needs the break. Man City just played 3 games in a week and Ederson played all 3. Its doable, especially for a keeper.

Seen us linked with a £12m bid for Rob Holding at Arsenal (albeit on a dubious Arsenal twitter account). Their fans seem delighted if it happens.

I guess Emery knows him, and we need another defender now. Would rather Maguire out of those two. Pity Laporte went to Saudi as would have been ideal.

Edit.

Seeing a lot of reports that we are very close to agreeing a deal for Acuna now as well. That would give us a very strong pair of options at Left back.

Rob Holding?

No thanks.

Not even if they gave us £12m.

One, he is shit.

Two, he has as much pace as Maguire.

And three, & most importantly, he is shit...

Rob Holding. That’s a blast from the past.

Is it fair to assume he’s a bit shit then?

Sorry mate, wasn't having a pop at you.  It's just that if we can't trust Olsen in games like Stevenage at home, then I'm not sure when we can really.

That's a bit harsh, we don't kick off until 2pm
