AV84 is correct in saying people blame bad team performances on the players they have an agenda with

I do it all the time

😄

And to be fair, the only point I was trying to make was I don't think we should be judging the success of our transfer window off the back of who people want to personally blame for last Saturday's performance.

And why not indeed.

Surprised Walker Peters is still at Southampton.

Well worth a punt 🤔

We must have a RB in mind, or at least on the to do list, or we wouldn't have let Ash go. I hope.

With the current squad I think we are good for challenging for 6th-7th, but with Emery's stated ambitions we need competition for Watkins and Cash at a minimum.

Does Emery really see something in Olsen that everyone else misses?

I doubt it, just at this point (in terms of what we see publicly which is not a lot) he doesn’t seem to be prioritising replacing him - if we don’t it’s the same calculated gamble as with Ollie staying fit after letting Ings go and Cam go on loan in Jan.

I’m just hoping that in the last few days of the window either someone comes in for Olsen or we announce a signing out of the blue - Emery, Monchi and the keeper coach will have a list of keepers who can play the way they want them to play…fingers crossed it happens.

Fortunately other clubs scouts won’t read here, they’ll see a guy who is still first choice for Sweden :-)

I think Olsen misses everything Emery sees.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I just don't think we're in a position to get in a keeper of the calibre that everyone seems to want. Anyone who is good enough is already playing for someone as 1st choice, or is already 2nd choice at a team that can offer them the same amount of games as we can.

I think it's a case of them not wanting to just sign someone for the sake of signing someone, and then ending up not actually being an improvement on Olsen.

Well if Emery saw something in Olsen's Missus that would explain a lot.

How did those teams who have the decent second choices get them, in that case?

Let’s do whatever they did.

The suggestion that it is not possible to have a better second choice than Olsen just doesn’t stand up.

You get 2 quality keepers when they both think they are good enough to be number 1. Who is going to think they are as good as Emi?

Often there’s an old pro on the bench.  Navas was on loan at Forest last year so wonder of that is an option.

A lot of them identified and signed players when they were younger and brought them on through loans or playing them in cups.

I'm not saying it's impossible to have a second keeper who is nearly as good as your first, but we are clearly not in that position, and our academy hasn't produced anyone as of yet that could make the step up now. Although I see Sinisalo has conceded 1 goal in 4 games for Exeter.

And as I've said before, Martinez is so good that you're going to need someone of a really high quality to ensure there's no drop off there if he's missing. At the moment I think our best bet would be to find an older keeper who has experience on his side, and could do a job for a handful of games, while we're trying to identify and bring in a future #1.

There didn’t have to be no drop of in quality from Martinez.

There just needs to be someone who doesn’t have crisp bags for hands like Olsen does.

Steer would have been a better option, even.

Steer wouldn’t be an improvement on anybody if he’s still injured and unable to play.

I know, I am talking about a fit Steer, ie a player of that level.
