I wonder if all this gets done by Friday in time for our game on Sunday. We’d be fucked without a recognized LB and a broken left sided CB if Digne goes and Acuna doesn’t sign, or signs and can’t play. Even if it is against Everton.

Was just thinking the same, especially given Acuña was still playing for Seville tonight.

I feel like Digne's been on his way out all summer, maybe even a deal has been done early on, and we've hung onto him for as long as we could to cover for Moreno.

While a risk, it wouldn’t surprise me if we allowed Acuna to play the Super Cup and then sign for us. Sevilla appear to be mad with us for agreeing terms with the player without agreeing a fee.

Digne out doesn't strike me as a must be.

With Oh Emporor's injury there's a clear argument for less disruption in the back four. Not more of that shit.

Acuna might be just dandy. But there's always a risk with a player like that adapting to English football. Digne is no risk. He's ready now.

I quite liked the idea of Moreno (when fit) going off and Digne being subbed on. Similar quality level. What all high end clubs should aspire to.

As the only club ever to be found guilty of tapping up, this from Seville doesn’t look great:

“They talk to the players before the club, they reach agreements with the player before the club, they offer miseries to the club, but they deceive the player. Given that, it is very difficult.”

Time for Monchi to leave a horse's head in their bed.

I did think that we keep reaching agreements with players, before transfer has been agreed with the club.

For Zaniolo and now Acuña.

Thinking about that though, when did they just stop caring about “tapping up”. Were rules ever really in place? Did they change? I seem to remember someone getting in trouble for it.

Now every transfer seems to start with personal terms being agreed.

I think there are two parts to it - mainly because in the most part, clubs are comfortable with the players talking to other clubs. The only issue was players speaking to other clubs without the permission of their current club. Now that the majority of clubs in football are set up as player factories to make money, they're pretty comfortable with their assets hawking themselves around.

For those where that isn't the case (here for example), the network of advisors, agents and hangers-on is so wide that there will be someone who you can talk to close enough to know what's going on. I'd imagine that nobody from Villa has met *Acuna. But a friendly agent we know happens to be able to WhatsApp someone who knows someone and before long you know exactly what his terms to join us would be.

That makes sense. Suppose a club would need to officially complain too. Which is difficult if everyone is doing it.

I was listening to 5 live the other week on the way home in the car talking about Kane, and a very recently retired player I forget the name of was saying that no club bids for players now without assurances from the players side they are happy with the deal on the table. Liverpool appear to be the only club forgetting this step at the moment.

I think Digne gets a bad rap personally. I think he’s a good player.

I'm with you here. Maybe not worthy of being our highest paid player, nor as good as Moreno but I am comfortable with him being a valuable player in our squad.
