I don't like the thought of maguire in a Villa shirt, but he could just be the answer short term.

Not in a team who wants to play a high line.

I'm going to say it & no doubt I'll be shot down for it. But Maguire, for all his faults, ticks many of the boxes to replace what Ming's brought to the side. Leadership, strength, experience & aerial presence.

The main concern would be his ability to work with a high line. But replacing Ming's won't be easy, cheap or without risk. I think Maguire, in the time available, is as close as we're likely to get.

I think you’ve just highlighted the main reason why; he can’t play a high line which is what we do. West Ham sit deep which will suit him. I think Maguire would be a disaster for how we play and he’s already a reclamation job.

Although I can see the logic it’s still a no from me. The bloke’s a ******. Also it’s £30m plus, I’d sooner us get some experienced veteran that can still perform on a short deal, or just ride with Carlos/Torres pairing as they are very good players. The question is just whether they’ll adapt to English football but we should probably find out considering they cost a combined £60m plus.
Besides I think he’ll still end up at Wet Spam.

The other thing with Maguire is there would be the worry if we drew a Greek team in the conference league what could happen.

I'd sooner go and get Smalling from Roma as an experienced head than go near Maguire.

Villa are cursed. We really are.

Maguire as a replacement for Mings, anyone??

We spent thirty odd million on Diego Carlos and Pau Torres, if we're buying Harry Maguire, it would render those transfers a bit redundant, no?

Well, not really. We bought them both with Mings being fit, so if he's out for a year, then having Mghuire wouldn't really change the plan that much.

As for the points made about him not playing the high line very well, there's no reason he couldn't be taught it in the same way as Emery's going to have teach Torres and Carlos. He doesn't appear to be any slower than either of those two.

I'm not trying undermine the importance of Mings to our team but it's a bit ridiculous to think in a squad of 15 or 16 players there's nobody who can step up and take charge in his absence. I hope Moreno or J Ramsey have a bit of something about them when they get back or we could be in for a very long season.

I see Tyrone Kings as a talisman for this club, I believe you can't buy that.  He's a big miss.

I would rather just get someone who will fit the system. I’m pretty sure Pau can, given he played a key role for Emery for a number of years. He just had a bad day, along with most of the team.

I'm a bit worried about Pau, and whether he can cope with the speed and physicality of the Premier League. I'd have been less worried about those things with Mings fit, but I think he might get done for pace and bullied a bit.

Torres and Carlos are nowhere near ready to play together in a high-line system in the PL but it certainly looks like we are stuck with it! Konsa looks totally lost without Mings next to him telling him what to do!

Banker bet for Villa games over 2.5 goals

Maybe, but I’d like to think he’ll adapt. He will need the right support alongside him, and I do hope DC will bring that physicality.

I agree he's a big miss, and he is more to the club than just what he is on the pitch on match day. But he's not even the actual captain, is he even vice captain or whatever they're called? McGinn needs to step up big time. Not blaming him for yesterday, everyone was shit, but going forward he needs to really lead the team. And as I said, I'd find it hard to believe that there's nobody else in the squad who can pick up some slack now. Is it possible we've built a team of followers, not a leader among them?
