Actually, statistically, it's not even the worst result at Newcastle in the last 12 months.

Yes, everything went wrong today, but we've still got lots to be thankful for. It's just that with Villa we've often seen how things get into a death spiral depressingly quickly.

Our worst ever Premier League era opening day result apparently.

I'm intrigued when we've had a worse opening day result at all but I can't be arsed checking the complete record now. Will have a look tomorrow.

5-1 is considered a bigger victory/heavier defeat than 4-0 isn't it?

Depends if you are just looking at it in terms of goals scored.

I'd suggest losing 0-3 to Wigan was much, much worse than today.

Saudi Arabia are at least a decent side. And they were at home.

I wonder if we might see if Man City really want to move Laporte on.

Obviously, having fucking fleeced us.

Emery already came out and said the club has targeted more players. Today won’t have changed any of that. It just might make us shell out a few more quid.

I'd buy Kyle Walker-Peters, Laporte and a mystery amazing striker.

We really, really should have gone for Barnes. An assist and a goal on his debut. I bet Bailey won't have achieved that by Christmas.

It's not even our worst result at SJP in the PL.

That 6-0 in 2010 was a total shocker.

We still had a very decent team in those days and Newcastle were newly promoted.

I remember I was driving back from somewhere, stopped for a pub lunch 30 minutes in expecting us to be 1 or 2-0 up, looked at the scoreline and it said Newcastle 3-0 and promptly walked back out again!

Got back home just as Carroll scored his hat trick and their sixth.

Since we last won at Newcastle we've won twice at Old Trafford in the league which says it all for what a bad ground it's become for us. Not like they were even any good until 18 months ago.

If there is any silver lining to these two injuries they didn’t happen in September. We have time and money to get good players in. Just a damn shame that it’s happened at all.
