When Man United are spending £70m on a young bloke who scored 9 league goals, I think we're underestimating just how much it would cost to upgrade Ollie and his ability to bag 14/15 a season. I fully expect him to surpass 15 too with the football we shall play under Emery all season.

Im glad someone has said this. I said on the pre season thread after Sundays game, he had a bit of a stinker in terms of finishing chances but his link up play with Diaby was good. Also in terms of the goals per season since he’s been with us, combined with his work rate etc, I reckon only Haaland, Rashford, Salah, Kane are better forwards at the moment (all different players i know).  Obviously Watkins has got better under Emery has well.

You aren't replacing Watkins for less that £75m now. He's too good all round, but his finishing is a bit streaky. He's either hot or not. Emery needs to find a way to keep him warm.

I'm not convinced Doku will end up at Man City, he would have to change almost everything that makes him exciting to fit in. If he does, it's a shame in many ways. Having said that, and watched us in pre season, I don't think he's right for us necessarily either. We have Diaby, Philogene, Bailey, Ramsey and Buendia who have all been used wide by Emery. Ramsey is the most productive, Diaby and Buendia will get a lot of game time. What we lack is a creative dictator almost. Goncalves would have been a brilliant addition. But that type. Not a tricky winger.

The thing with Ollie is that thus far he has pretty much always been available so if he got a knock that took him out for a couple of months we need to be confident in the replacement.  I like the idea of Cam or Duran starting cup games and bring on the bench for 20 minute run outs but starting every PL game for a spell at the point would be a concern.

Ollie has that high energy press that is difficult to replicate or find someone to carry out….but that is Monchi and co’s job.

Ollie has the experience it if he was out for any length of time I think the other two would be adequate replacement
Give Archer the same amount of games and time Ollie had last year he’ll get 15 goals

I just haven’t seen enough of Archer to see whether his all round game ie  hold-up play linkup play work rate is better than Ollies. It could well be

I might have counted wrong, but by my reckoning 13 of those goals were scored under Emery, and all since January. So if he'd managed the same in the first half of the season, you're talking maybe 25 goals, at least.

I think Ollie will score around the 20 mark this season and at the same time miss 10 easy chances.
We just have accept that is Ollie.
His overall work ethic is phenomenal and that is priceless

The only way I'd accept Doku ending up at plastic ****** fc is if he replaced plastic ****** greaseball tossermctwat.

Wouldn't take a lot I suppose. Doku just needs to score more than 5 and assist more than 4. Or something like that.

He isn't sponsored by Gucci though...

We've been offered Kyle Walker-Peters for £20m according to a dude on Twitter X apparently.

Can't think of anyone else that they've done that with.

I've always quite liked him. Quite skilful and nippy, and I thought he tore us a new one when we played Spurs on our first game back in the Prem. Would be good competition for Matty Cash.

The best thing about walker-peters is that he's comfortable on both sides so we could then potentially move Digne on as well, who I like but he's a very for someone who is clearly 2nd choice. We could then hold on to Chambers instead as a utility defensive player.

Not going to lie, I'd be pretty disappointed if Tammy is the 'top-class' striker that we're waiting on.
Me to
Did not see so much of him during his time at VP as not so many of the games were televised.
But mates of long standing who saw him week in and out were not broken hearted when he left, common retort was , he did a great job, but not many were convinced he would step up.
We need a back up/alternative to Ollie.
I guess this is not something that has escaped the Management team.

Tammy was brilliant for us that season, there was a colossal drop off in quality to the likes of Wesley & Samatta the following season. But I think Watkins is a much better fit for the way we play. Tammy in my memory didn't get involved in the play as much as Ollie but was a better finisher. Excellent defender at set piece time too. Tammy's stats last season for Roma weren't great but he has the quality to bounce back either with Roma or elsewhere.

Just think Archer would be a better backup to Ollie for this season. We aren't at the stage yet where we can spend a fortune on someone like Abraham to most likely sit on the bench a lot of the time. When we punted Ings last season, it was no surprise Watkins thrived thereafter as the main man.

You're so unfair to Metty Cesh, eamonn, makes me sad. :(
