For striker, my preference is to sign the best possible “21 year olds” that can be the transition from Watkins in a year or two. I just don’t think we are in the position financially (or attractive enough) to buy the necessary quality right now.

Currently the best “21 year olds” might be Archer or Duran so we should at least give them a blast until January and see how they do.

This is both right and the problem at the same time. There's not much point signing a 21year old to develop when we have Archer, Duran, Wilson all working their way through. A 21 year old who's definitely ready to start and compete with Watkins from day 1 would be fine but there aren't many of those around. It's why for this season I'd go for someone a bit older and lean into the bit of extra experience to help those kids develop at their own pace.

£10m with Ramsey junior? Not a chance.

Indeed.  A Cavani would be great, but there’s a risk we end up with a Ronaldo that upsets the chemistry of the whole club. Archer/Duran might fail individually but I think the club would be fully behind them and possibly push harder to make it work.

Apparently Burnley are preparing a bid.
Would be a good option on loan

Bailey getting linked with Saudi Arabia move.

Think we'll sign another wide attacker in last week of the window. Brennan Johnson has the feel of a late move I reckon.

That in/out will provide better balance to the squad. We’d be £20m down I reckon but have genuine competition for Watkins and cover for Diaby (all in one player).

Not going to lie, I'd be pretty disappointed if Tammy is the 'top-class' striker that we're waiting on.
Me to
Did not see so much of him during his time at VP as not so many of the games were televised.
But mates of long standing who saw him week in and out were not broken hearted when he left, common retort was , he did a great job, but not many were convinced he would step up.
We need a back up/alternative to Ollie.
I guess this is not something that has escaped the Management team.

pre injury - I think tammy for £25m ish isn't a bad deal.

As a squad player - he would be good, and if you think what Unai did with Watkins in a few months, to have two strikers of that quality - there will be few that could match that outside, probably beyond Liverpool, and the two Manchester clubs.

I would love someone amazing - and it would be a little underwhelming but I don't think it would be bad business

As an upgrade on Watkins it would be very underwhelming, but as competition or a strike partner for Watkins I’d be pretty happy with it.

And at £25/30 million that is a steal.

We paid around that much for Watkins before he’d even scored a premier league goal. Prices for players have only increased since then.

Yeah, I agree that him coming in as second choice and competition for Ollie Watkins would be a decent bit of business at that price.

When Man United are spending £70m on a young bloke who scored 9 league goals, I think we're underestimating just how much it would cost to upgrade Ollie and his ability to bag 14/15 a season. I fully expect him to surpass 15 too with the football we shall play under Emery all season.

Yep.

I'd feel better if Unai really wanted him, but it doesn't excite me.

I might have counted wrong, but by my reckoning 13 of those goals were scored under Emery, and all since January. So if he'd managed the same in the first half of the season, you're talking maybe 25 goals, at least.

Man City interested in Doku according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter via BBC Sport gossip.

Manchester City are keen on Rennes' Belgium winger Jeremy Doku, with the club eyeing the 21-year-old as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who joined Saudi side Al-Ahli last week.
