There's some real nasty posters on this site who jump into bullying/harassment mode really fast whenever someone behaves differently (footy seems to kop the most of this)
Or when someones world view/politics is different (Ashton is getting it today)
Then theres the whole labour vs tory stuff. Which seems to get shoe horned in whereever possible.

You guys may find it amusing but personally it makes me feel uncomfortable reading through the bullying whenever it occurs.

Even if in your view the person you're being a dick is in your view more of a dick. You're still being a dick.

Just let people be for fucks sake.

(I'm aware I may be the only person getting fed up with all this, still. I felt strongly enough to bother posting this!)

I'm not sure you fully understand the point of a forum, disagreeing is pretty important. Most of the time when people cry bullying it's nothing of the sort, it's lots of people individually disagreeing with the same post/poster for largely the same reasons.

Ashton is getting some shit today for describing teachers in the sort of language that has bene reserved for immigrants for the last decade and then doubling and tripling down on it, not because people are bullying him.

I'm quite sure nobody has mentioned immigrants, especially Ashton. Why is that relevant in any way? He said a System was Infested with certain political ideals and you draw comparisons to immigration? How is that helping this discourse?

Disagreement obviously is part and parcel of a forum I'm just saying how I see it. It feels over the last 2/3 years on here certain subjects are just open season for people (often the same sets of people) to gang up (or lots of people individually disagreeing with a single poster as you put it) for having a "wrong" belief,  usually in my view to the detriment of the discussion that was taking place to start with.

With respect, joining a discussion by saying simply 'leftist word salad' and following that up with the below response doesn't invite responses made in good faith.

'The state school system is so infested with leftists that I pay for my kids to be privately educated...They have a lot of holidays, don’t work particularly long hours, took a long holiday during Covid whilst I worked all the way through it. Not the slightest bit interested in paying them more'

Ashton has since made some more reasonable posts that haven't had the same degree of negative reaction; the reason being they weren't complete arse gravy. Widespread objection to that was not bullying, it was the response to an unpopular and unfortunately worded post that insulted thousands of hard-working and often undervalued people.

Depends what you call reasonable. I NEVER work less than 14 hours a day, and usually work at least 17 hours a day. I am a 100% bona fide wprkaholic. It caused the breakdown of my first marriage. The lack of contact with two of my children. I make a few concessions these days (take at least half a day off at Christmas for instance). If I could take a pill and never sleep but work 100 years more I would swallow it in an instant.

If I am honest I don't value people in general much. Most of them are a complete waste of time to me.

Genuine question, what do you work so hard for?

I remember in the past you've said you're not just out to make money, and if you don't value people, what motivates you? Is it just the enjoyment and pride you take in your work?

I remember in the past you've said you're not just out to make money, and if you don't value people, what motivates you? Is it just the enjoyment and pride you take in your work?

Interesting question.

It is certainly not money, I have made a lot of money for other people but never managed to keep much.

I don't think it's true that I don't value people, I am not touchy feely sure, but I do value humanity. I have at least 20 people I like (kids aside) and more than 60 live people I admire.

I guess it is mostly enjoyment and pride in my work. My wife / partner (not got around to getting married which is a bit of an issue after 12 years engagement evidently) recently made a 'joke' that I lose sleep not over not spending time with my family and children, but over not finishing my work. This is completely true.

I get no enjoyment or rest from sleep. Indeed I usually work in my sleep, as much as I am able given it can be a little weird. Sleep and wake time are almost the same to me, I never really lose consciousness it just gets a little 'trippy'.

I absolutely am very concerned at 49, that I may not finish my work before I die. It is a constant source of worry and motivation to me. I actively resent sleep. It's nearly 3am now, I got up at 6am, and have at least 3 hours work left when I finish wasting time here (Villa is my only other obsession and usually only when I have writers block so to speak).

So yes, sad as it may sound, my main motivation is achievement in my field. However I caveat that with the usefulness of my field. I am pretty effective. The technology I have developed would if properly adopted knock at leat 14% off global GHG emissions. It would also increase world food production by at least 36%. Reduce pesticide use by 52%. It pisses me off that this will never happen mostly due to politics and vested interests.

Sadly it has not had even close to that impact. Indeed the multinationals instead forced me out of my own company, spent two decades threatening me (and my family) and keeping my tech off the market. I fully intend to outwit them and give them a bloody nose before I die.

I pity you. I have taken three days off in the last decade, under duress.

I am about to go to Australia for a month, and am taking my kids and nanny with me. Its a punt at a new way of working that will give me maybe 10 days in 30 I spend with them (not full days obviously). They are going. to be based near Brisbane, I will visit NZ (north and South Island), Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria Northern Territories but will try to get weekends with the family.

So..... when do they fly out to the US?  First game is on the 24th, so presuming maybe Wednesday / Thursday?  Might even be Friday with it being a relatively short flight to Philadelphia and getting there around lunchtime.

Might be wrong, but I wouldn't have thought they will get any business done while they are out there, so probably looking at before or when they get back.

Wednesday so imagine they might be pushing to get one more done before then.

I know it's been political and off-topic, but have read the last few pages with a lot of interest!

Ashtonvilla, is it that you think there are too many 'sub-par' teachers in the system to justify improving pay and conditions for all? And for those that are motivated, hard working and competent (curious to know ballpark, what percentage of the profession you think that might be), do you think pay and working conditions are reasonable?

Do you think improving pay and conditions might a) attract more people to the job, improving the pool of potential candidates schools can select from and b) improve the performance of more teachers if they are motivated and resourced to do their jobs better?

Genuinely curious about your thinking on this, and what you see as the solutions to improving schools.

I have 16 weeks holiday a year.

I have 7 months holiday a year. The other 5 months I am surrounded by topless babes whilst I sup cocktails and smoke.

It's all about personal choice.

My wealth is in my surroundings and not in my pocket.

That was, and still is, my personal choice.

In the interests of getting things back on topic...

Can someone tell me who Dan Bardell is ?

Sure.

He's an autistic, lazy leftist teacher, who is English but pretends to be Welsh, he runs a Word Salad bar in Islington on the snide, as he's actually fully employed by a junior doctor in the NHS.

And he stamps on baby rabbits.

That's good to know, I've been confusing him all this time with Luke Robinson.
