It's not being cantankerous.  It's just not buying into the narrative that some clubs have a god given right to be more superior to others.  If you don't rage against the machine you end up with shite like the Super League and the constant Sky references to the BIg 6.

Fuck them.  Fuck 'em all.

I'd wager a whole lot of money that plenty of us would refer to us as United from time to time if we'd have been named so

Well yes, we refer to ourselves as Villa.

In Sheffield, when people say United they mean Sheffield, generally. ManU fans don't like it, especially when they are pulled up on it. I know ManCity fans too, and they say City, so I ask why they are talking about Leicester.

We're so very lucky to be unique like that.

There was a TV interview when Sheffield U played ManU, and the interviewer, when speaking to a SheffU player, referred to United. The idiot then responded, accepting the ManU name tag. I was appalled.

I always refer to us as The Villa, rather than just Villa......

Agree that a goalkeeper will probably be done with very little lead-up. Should be very good with playing it out.

We've been linked with a highly rated 20 year old from Valencia. Meant to be rapid.

Anyone else noticing the emphasis on pace? Pau - top 5 fastest players in Spain. Diaby - one of the fastest players in Europe. Johnson - fastest player in the Premier League last season.

Defenders could get very worried about facing us.

Quite right too - the team that finished last season was a bit slower than most I’d say.

Right on comrade, that's what will make a difference in this world: nit picking about how people refer to other football clubs. Thanks for alerting me to the good fight

We are The Villa.  There's only one.  We're not belittling any other club's identity by referring to ourselves in that way.

Again, I feel like the context I used it in made it clear who I was talking about.

If the conversation had been about football in general then I would have specified, and I'm pretty sure I always have specified except for that one post.

Anyway..... have we signed anyone yet?

Well yes, you're right, as do I! Which some people find odd, until they realise we are actually 'The' Villa.

I agree.

' City' really annoys me as I remember before their takeover nobody referred to them as that apart from obviously Mancs. They were always called Man City.

Then you saw people gradually referring to them as just 'City' as if it's the familiar club from down the road they've always been interested in.

It's not about that.  You're really not getting this are you?

The key really is in the orginal post. You mentioned Newcastle and United.

Newcastle are United. And so are many other clubs. By accepting, and using United as a way of referring to ManU, you are perpetuating the problem.

That club have no divine right to expect anyone else to call them United. None whatsoever.

Sheffield were the first United.

I usually call the other lot Manure.
