We're being linked with Maguire again, Dwight Yorke apparently telling him Villa would be a great move for him.

To be fair to Maguire, I watched a video on YouTube talking about his "downfall" and they made some really valid points about his past levels, how he performs for England, and the general shit show that has been swirling around Utd the past few seasons. However, even if he moved to a club where the manager backed him 100%, and he was to get back to his peak form, he's doesn't suit our style of play at all.

I just don't understand the insistence of linking him with us all summer.

Maguire is the antithesis of a football playing centre half - he is terrible with the ball. This is never going to happen. I'm glad as well - too much baggage.

Yes he needs to go to Burnley, Sheff Utd, Bournemouth or the like even as loan. Not being funny a team where they will defend a lot and the game in front of them

Interesting to see the view players from outside the UK have of us. It's understandable but still interesting. I would think, depending on your age, we should be quite an exciting prospect for anyone who doesn't have a "top" club already sniffing around. If you're knocking on for 30 and want to play in the Champions League then we're probably not what you're looking for. But if you've only just turned 24, and could still get a "big" move in 2 or 3 seasons time, then why not back yourself to be part of what Emery is trying to do?

(Obviously I'm aware football decisions are rarely ruled by logic)

More Twitter

Franck Kessié: Aston Villa have begun talks with Barcelona, for Franck Kessié. Villa offered €20m but Barça don’t plan to sell for less than €30m. Negotiations are however open so there are many numbers that Kessié ends up playing under Unai Emery's orders

Oh, I agree with Dwight there, coming to Villa would be a great move for him.

It would also be a great move for me, given that I'm a slightly podgy, unfit, balding, dyspraxic 41 year old.  However, I'm not sure that it'd be a such great move for the club, which is maybe more the point ...

Nigel Sphinx has been scouting the lad from Pyramids FC, says he's a top Giza but will cost a pharaoh packet. The player has issued a denile that he's submitted a transfer request, he in no rushes to move.

Bravo Sir

I think you're closer to the truth than Mallo.

Maguire is decent on the ball, his touch is pretty sound and his range of passing is above average in this league. He's also exceptional in the air which makes him a big threat from corners.

His problem is that he's just too slow, both outright pace but also, critically, on the turn. Almost every foul he commits is to take out a striker that has done him on the turn and will be away if he doesn't kick them. At ManU he gets away with a lot of those but at most other clubs he'd be a walking yellow card. For England we have so many players in defensive roles that there's always cover so his flaws aren't so exposed but he'd be about as poor a choice as I can imagine for Villa, with our very attacking left back and highline he'd be destroyed within a month. There's absolutely no chance emery is interested unless he's planning to play a completely different game next season, but that would mean changing to a system that all 3 of his major signings so far aren't suited to.

No need to include the balding part, some of the greatest of all time were follicly challenged (Zidane, Charlton, Robben, Roberto Carlos...)

The problem is he is yet another over hyped player that Red filth got sucked into believing he was was a world beater for a ridiculous fee to only to find out he is bang average

Add to the long list they have done it with

Oh Dwight, next time you are going for a job at a top club, someone will drag out this quote which shows a lack of knowledge beyond belief.

Just go away and leave us alone you clown.

It's the fact they've slapped a 50million price tag on Maguire that gets me. Nobody is going to pay that for someone who isn't going to be a starter, and there's not a lot of clubs in a position to want him as a starter and be able to afford it.

They'll be lucky to loan him out and only eat half his wages.
