According to reports here we've been sniffing around Benfica's Norway international, Fredrik Aursnes. Benfica aren't interested in selling him which is a shame as he has the prefect profile for the PL.

We wouldn't play him every week though, it would be Aursnes for courses

Or Norskes for courses.

I wonder if deals are going to ramp up considerably as soon as Monchi takes over that side of things. That a number of things are bubbling away but from an optics standpoint signings and sales will take place under his watch. You have to imagine lots of conversations are happening behind the scenes.

Do Norway have any good players apart from the two PL superstars?

Aursnes as discussed above was one of the best players in the league for Benfica, to the extent that they barely missed Fernandez when he went to Chelsea.

Sander Berge is decent. Sorloth was pretty rubbish in the Premier League but has been excellent most other places he's been.

Nyland?

Still the best save a Villa keeper has ever made.

That aside, that first 20 minutes at home to Leicester in the League Cup semi final he was unreal

One in a very long line of Villa keepers whose occasional world-beating performance didn't really make up for all the times they were a bit shit.

Nyland, Guzan, Sorensen, Johnston, Given, Enckelman...

It's why we're so very fortunate to have Martinez. Not only is he a phenomenal keeper, but he's also an integral part of the way we play. I think I'd be more pissed off if he left than I've ever been, including Platt, Yorke, Barry and Joe.

If we are after centre halves we should be fishing in the Scandinavian pool as they are strong, hard, viking like warrior people, I thought Johann Lang might have uncovered some gems but he’s done fuck all so far

Piss pooling around with Spanish softies (Ramos apart) is not where we should be casting, they are more suited to tricks, flicks and general playmaking

I thought everyone knew this

(sorry for any racial profiling in the above post )

And the danger of leaving their man unmarked at a corner to go push a donkey off a church tower.

Martinez is probably my favourite player.

Not a bad bit of business either, less than 12 months ago Benfica paid €13m plus €2m in add-ons to Feyenoord. Now he has a €50m buy out clause and would probably get €40m+ for him.

People's opinion of world class does differ but i think he's the 4th world class player i've seen at the Villa (since the late 80's). McGrath obviously, Platt and Yorke (for a few years) and now Martinez, and i think he pretty much has been since he walked through the door. Great to have a player of that standing again.
