Benteke is like a love affair, okay it ended with hurt and regret, but it was awesome while it lasted and you still think back to the good times. Tammy is like an Amsterdam prostitute, we paid our 50 euros and got our fifteen minutes, but we shouldn't go all misty eyed over it or ask her to move in.

I really thought Benteke was going to end up at somewhere like Real Madrid, couldn't have been more wrong. He's barely looked like a footballer at times since leaving us, I never thought he'd become a 'joke'.

Yeah, it's sad really. He was loved at the Villa and never got that anywhere else.

Benteke's achilles injury finished him as a top level striker. Was never the same afterwards, even for us.

The injury played a part but I think the biggest thing was that Liverpool was just the wrong fit for him, particularly when they changed to Klopp after 2 months. Benteke just wasn't the right player for how he wanted them to play after that. I am surprised he didn't do better at Palace but I think part of that was that in 12-13 months he went from being the main man with the world at his feet to being dumped on the first people willing to take him and it wrecked his confidence.

The last time he looked anything like himself was 16/17 when Allardyce was at Palace for half a season. For whatever reason after that it seemed like Hodgson didn’t fancy him.

Fuck me if people can't see the reference was a turn of phrase to emphasise my (pathological hatred for all things red) then you need to find your safe space and wait until it all goes away.

God forbid if I ever say anything positive about the Tories  ;) I might get tarred and feathered

If you can't see that making 'jokes' about rapists might upset other people then perhaps you need to poke your head out of your hole for 5 minutes. Find a less disgusting analogy, it's not difficult if you have half a brain

Watch you don't fall off that pedestal dear

Agree
Liverpool was probably the worst club he could have joined, they just didn’t suit him.
I hate to say it, but, Chelsea would have been perfect for him. An absolute shoe in as Drogba’s replacement

I remember the Benteke v Lukaku debate raging at the time, Chelsea didn't seem to rate the latter too highly either. I didn't think it was possible to be better all-round than Benteke was in those seasons for us.

True, I was definitely of the opinion Benteke was the better player.  Tbh, I think he was until it all went tits up.

I was totally convinced that at the height of his powers Benteke was the total player to fill Drogba's boots at Chelsea. I was amazed when he went to Liverpool especially with the way they had been set up.

It was a wrong move and began the beginning of the end for his career.

On the other hand, even that version is still probably the best striker they've had since Ian Wright.

Even if that is two-thirds of the player that we had.

I smirked and tutted.
