Back on topic, the striker position is going to be an interesting one. Unless we fork out serious money on an international class striker, then Watkins is likely to start as first choice.  We are therefore probably going to be in the market for someone who is content with starting out as second choice and working their way in.

It will be interesting to see if Forest will entertain offers for Brennan Johnson as he could fit that profile and comes with added bonus of being able to play wide.

He's not strong enough to play instead of Watkins if needed

That's the question though, what sort of level of striker are we going to be able to attract if they are likely to be coming in as second choice to start with?  With that in mind, I don't think Tammy Abraham at £25m would have been a bad bit of business to be honest.

I think it will be interesting to see which way we go with a striker.  We might, of course, go big and bring in someone who will push Watkins into 2nd choice, but I suspect any major investments will into the 'number 10' and wide positions.

This is why I want Jackson. Most strikers who can play all across the front are not good enough as either a winger or a centre-forward. Jackson is.

Fernandes - really? you would actually entertain having that twat in our team

I would rather Rolf Harris or Jimmy Saville - as they have a better set of virtues than that rat faced cnut.

Nope - not for me not a single one of them as all of them would think they were better than playing for us and feel they we doing us a favour.

Also its why i hate their "supporters" moaning like bitches about money spent by their neighbours when they have spunked millions on bang average shite like

Anthony 95m€  (Makes Jacks cost look a bargain)
Sancho 85m€
Casemiro 70m€
and the giant that is Van de Beek (another one they spent all summer in the media chasing) for a 40m€ fee.

Then twats like Maguire and paying De Gea a reported 375€per week  :o

Most players they have had down the years would not command the coverage they get / got if they did not play for them.

Fuck the lot of them

Full of the joys of spring …

Interesting about Tammy that it’s alleged we agreed to buy him from Roma for about £25m and then he got injured.

I don't think I've seen a player split opinion so much. I get that he was great for us in the championship but whenever I have seen him play at the top level (admittedly probably only properly around 7/8 times), I have always been really unimpressed.

And he wanted to ditch us and get out in January of our promotion season.

I thought he turned down Wolves?  Was he hoping someone else came in?

Yes, I thought that, too.
I think his agent was looking elsewhere, but, given the choice, Tammy preferred to stay with us.

I think his agent was looking elsewhere, but, given the choice, Tammy preferred to stay with us.

He was talking to them and had to be talked round by fraggle hair;

"Grealish, who was injured at the time the striker was being chased by Wolves, told The Mirror: “I remember the manager ringing me and saying ‘I know you and Tammy are close – have a word with him’. I said to him: ‘Listen to your Uncle Jack, when I’m back (from injury) it will change’. I was just talking utter rubbish. I didn’t know it would (work)."

"There were times I nearly gave up but Jack would be in my ear. When he was injured, he used to phone me telling me to keep it going for him until he got back because he believed he had a chance."

I know that we weren't setting the place alight at that point, but we'd given him the platform to score goals and show off what he could do. We'd put him in the shop window already by that point and his loan was serving it's purpose.

I want people who want to play at the Villa and we've had far too many people who's heads drop when it's not going out way. We have players now who want to rise to the challenge and a manager who is pushing that philosophy.  I haven't seen anything in Abraham that suggests he actually wants to play for us and would be one of the people digging us out the hole when the odds are against us.

He has masses of ability and I'll always be grateful for his contribution that season, but there's a reason he isn't a hero anywhere else and has yet to spend more than two seasons in anyone's team.

I think that’s a bit harsh. Any player on loan has to have an eye on their long term future, if the chance comes for a permanent move they would be stupid not to at least consider it.

It wasn't it was another loan to the end of the season.

I've to take exception to this, whilst I'm not that fussed about signing him now his commitment when wearing the shirt for us on loan was outstanding, regardless of if he was interested in moving to Wolves at that point.

In the PL for a team who was doing well at the time.

People can spin Tammy's time with us any way they want, but him turning down a very attractive loan move for a young player trying to establish their career was huge for us and very loyal by him.

Well, it's not really a spin, it's just my opinion of the player.  If people think talking to another club about ditching us but in the end deciding not to is very loyal, well that's up to them too.

I remember when we got promoted, everyone was talking about signing him back up for the Prem and he showed absolutely no interest whatsoever. Chelsea moved him on after two seasons, Roma are happy to let him go after two seasons...

I think he's a good player, and as I said before, I am grateful for what he did for us. But I don't hold him up as some Villa hero I'd love to get back, he was just a player who had a mutually beneficial loan. He wasn't a Benteke.

Looking at him like that without claret and blue specs on, he's had one good season at Chelsea and one good season at Roma, after two good seasons in the Championship. He'll be 26 years old next season. Not a bad signing or one I would hate to see happen, but not one I would really get excited for from what I've seen so far.

Couldn’t disagree more ref loyalty, he was here on loan and if at the time he was being offered via his parent club the opportunity to switch his loan to the Premier League he had to consider it.

As for after he went back, he went back to one of the top clubs in the league who had just appointed a new manager who was clearly going to give opportunities to younger players like Mount, Tomori & Tammy.

Where I do agree is after 3/4 years I am still not convinced he is the answer or overall good enough

I like Tammy for where we were back then. I don't see him as an improvement on Ollie really though and maybe not even as good as.  I'd rather Cameron promoted.  If he doesn't work sufficiently well then we try and address it in January but I'm sure he will be a success when needed.

Loved the big man, but he wanted out after the first season!
It’s only injuries that meant he stayed for three years.
