It's 7 out of the squad of 25 isn't it? Both Ramsey and Archer would need to be added for the first time last year, as it'll be players born after 1 Jan 2002 who are still effectively youth players, and they were both born before that. With Emi, Cash, Konsa, Mings and Watkins, there's your 7. If we do want to add other English players, then I can think of quite a few I'd like to see before Sancho. Depending on what happens to Sinisalo, he'd have to be added and would count as home grown too

An Italian journalist claims we had already agreed a deal with Roma for Tammy Abraham before his ACL injury in the last game. I know he's very much a marmite player on here but  €30m in today's market for an English player would have been good value.

I think the Premier League and UEFA rules are different.

Premier League seems to be a maximum 17 non-home grown players are allowed in a squad of up to 25. If you only have 6 home grown you could have a maximum squad size of 23.

UEFA requires you to have 8 home grown players in a 25 man squad, 4 of these would have to come through the club's own youth system.

I might be wrong though.

Edit: for UEFA if you can't name 8 qualifying players you would have to reduce squad size accordingly.

Depending on Chambers, I would say we'll almost certainly have Archer in the squad. Otherwise we're going to have to buy more English players, and to get somebody of Archer's promise/ability we'd be looking at biggish money. I just can't see us buying that many English players and paying the premium that comes with it.

Would be happy with that…not desperate for him to leave but would prefer a younger, fitter player to provide competition to Buendia in that playmaker type role

Almost. For UEFA you still need a minimum of 4 of your 8 home grown to be club developed. If you don't have any club developed players you can only have a maximum 4 non-club developed home grown players.

Sounds more like lazy journalism than a solid link. I want him to flourish here because his best can be sublime, but if we get an opportunity to fleece someone off their oil fund money, I’m all for it!

Ramsey J., Ramsey A., Archer, Sinisalo, Iroegbunam, O'Reilly, Patterson, Revan, Swinkels, Chrisene, all qualify... and I'd guess there's potential for the first 7 or 8 who've all made matchday squads this season...
