Back to speculation - Odysseas Vlachodimos, Greek keeper for Benfica linked. Hopefully GK links are the start of the end for Olsen

Interesting article on what the Saudis are doing.
In summary, it is all building towards hosting the World Cup in 2030

They'll soon create some off season competition, a mini super league.

Kante to Saudi is done.  £100m a year.  He'll have earnt about £18m before the season even starts.  Probably tax free I'd guess?

Deal worth £100m wages, but doesn't say how many years? Can't be £100m for 1 year surely?
Fabrizio saying:

◉ Medical tests completed in London.

◉ 2 year deal with an option for further season.

◉ €100m per season salary — figure includes image rights, commercial deals and ‘creative’ portfolio.

He is (or certainly was) a superb player but fucking hell. Hope the bubble bursts as quick as it's started.

It does feel like they're wasting an awful lot of money, but honestly, for them it's peanuts.  Isn't the Saudi royal family worth something like a couple of trillion?  They could buy an entire team on £100m a year and it barely makes a dent in their wealth.

The bigger question is whether it buys what they ACTUALLY want, which is respectability, and a seat at the top table in world football.  I don't think it's even close to giving them that.

Given the relative wealth in football today both here and across Europe, where players will never need to work again in their lives if they can play for four or five years in the middle of the Premier League, I don't see how anyone at the top of the game would sacrifice the chance to win trophies in European leagues, for money in Saudi - unless they're already winding down, ala Ronaldo and Kante.

Surprised that Orkun Kokcu has gone to Benfica. Thought us or one of the top end Premier League sides would be signing him.

They moved quickly and smartly. They only paid €25m which is roughly £21.5m, not a bad bit of business, the barstewards.

Florentino Luis's replacement? Another one we've been linked with.

I bet there aren’t massive queues for a pint at half time at Al Halibut or whatever they’re called.

Olsen's been our Achilles heel for a while now.

Is it not true that they have less than 20 years worth of oil left? What happens after that? They're obviously not stupid so I wonder what the plans are.

Having that much cash means they don't need another plan!

Yeah but rich people love nothing more than making more money. I'm surprised with all the money that they have that they haven't invested loads in to getting to space, reseaching mining asteroids or some shit. I have no idea what I'm talking about which is why I'm curious as to what is next? Harvesting journalists?
