The Telegraph are reporting the Torres/Vlahovic story and added Kieran Tierney's name to the story.

Tierney is a cracking player but about as reliable as an Alfa Romeo

That's the issue, skilful player but made of glass.

It's also hard to see why he'd swap being reserve left-back for Arsenal to be reserve left-back for Villa.

I read that as total villadelph, not 100m each

I read it the same way. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it would be a 200m net spend on two players. It was the first time I saw the Vlahovic link, so I emphasized the and.

I'm sure its all pie in the sky at this point.. its Marca in May.

Ah I get you now. Sorry, my mistake.

I have been thinking about how much we'll spend in summer, and I'm hopeful it could, or should, be towards £200m. If we mean business.

So I was thinking I would like those players but wouldn't want to blow it all on them.

How much do you think we'll spend? Is £200m too much?

What fee would Vlahovic command, £70m?

Good question. I would guess £200m-300m given we spent relatively little last summer and in January. I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if it's less than £150m given we're in the market for high quality additions in a number of positions, including a forward and an attacking winger. Especially as the arrivals of Unai and Alemany means this feels like a pivotal moment.

Won't FFP still loom large? More than £150m would be exciting but how realistic is it?

Don't believe we need a left-back, thankfully.

Think Digne will go in the summer if we can find a buyer.  Think his wages are too high for someone who is now clearly 2nd choice.

It would be a shame to lose Digne, he has done well as cover. I'm just ignoring all the transfer talk for the next few weeks, all it will be is agents looking for a new pay day. Emery will know who he wants and I think there will be a few suprises.

Not sure we'll go in quite that heavy (£200-300m). Emery doesn't strike me as that kind of manager and we don't seem that sort of club.

I'm expecting a few clever free/cheap transfers backed up by a couple of bigger signings. I'm thinking £80m-£120m kind of range, more likely to be at the bottom end that the top.

I would agree, 200m+ feels unrealistic, particularly if we don’t have at least Europa league football.

2/3 players who are unheralded but players Unai knows will do the jobs he wants of them (including a 2nd choice keeper who is competent with his feet) & 2 maybe 3 who excite us all

Our standard fee if Man City come calling for anybody is £100m.

Agreed👍

Agree, I don’t think it will be exceptionally high (£200+m)
Given the players we’re being linked with I’m splitting the difference and going in the region of £120-150m.
Like you, algy, I think there might be a couple of cheaper acquisitions.

Yes, we got probably our best outfield player on a free last summer, and this new bloke is supposed to be quite savvy regarding fees and frees isn’t he? Plus we’ve got some great potential coming back from loans. Whilst a big spend would be exciting, it’s not the be all and end all. Three or four at Kamara/Martinez levels would be fantastic.
