We’ll be able to attract a far better calibre of player than we’d be lining up if Gerrard was still here, that’s for sure. Especially as we’ll be able to offer top flight football.

Gerrard was able to attract likes of Coutinho, Carlos, Digne and Kamara. He had lots of problems but not that one.

Just think with European football we will be able to have a much larger squad with the likes of A Ramsey, Archer and Iroegbunam all back in, plus new signings to replace underachievers like Bailey, Coutinho and Digne.

We need to be competing with likes of Spurs and Newcastle for players, Emery should be a huge draw too. The likes of Buendia chose us ahead of Arsenal not too long ago don't forget so I think we should be an attractive proposition to many new signings.

The Plastics are looking to dump £60m Sancho too. Good luck with that one too.

I'd 100% go for him if that was the price.

He's a great player, more talent than most players in the PL.

Still very young as well.

I wouldn't see him as an Emery type at all. He just seems like an out and out winger, who doesn't do anything positive very often. We've already got one of those of our own.

Same here, plus the Yanited fans don't think he currently has the mental strength to play at the top level. I would hope that Guendouzi and/or Smith-Rowe are more likely if Unai has a favourable impression of them from his time at Arsenal.

To coin a phrase used more out here; Emery has made lemonade out of lemons, taking a bunch of misfits, a vast majority of players most of us were casting aside 6 months ago. Just think how much better we should be come August with our full compliment of retainer current and on loan players plus I expect 4 or 5 proper signings. Whatever ultimately happens this season is already a massive bonus. Almost disappointing now if we miss out on Europe. But August can’t come soon enough.

I think that's a really big factor for me.  Smith-Rowe in particular has really failed to push on this season and establish himself in that Arsenal side. I know he missed the early part of the season with injury, but I don't think he's started a league game for them all season? Normally that would raise question marks, but if Emery wants him and thinks he can be an asset, then I'm in 100%.

If feels so weird to have such complete and utter faith in the decisions made by a Villa manager.

I think the biggest factor in the transfer window will be that the owners have 100% trust and confidence in Emery and will back him and give him whatever he wants

I think the owners have been waiting for this for a while someone they believe in so they can see their ambitions achieved
so I’m expecting Emery to be given a free hand, not that I think he’ll go mad he doesn’t seem that type

I'm sort of thinking this end of season charge is a bit like DOLs first season where we seemed as if we wouldn't lose no matter what in some games, Soton away comes to mind. He got a great tune out of the likes of Angel, Barry and others that GT struggled with. There was a lot of excitement about the young players back then too.

Obviously Emery is a much better coach than that joker but we do need a lot of investment in this squad evidenced by the subs bench last night.

I'd go for him at £20m.
Typical Yorhshireman. He cost £73m, he plays for Man Utd and England, still only 23..SOLD!
Only adopted Yorkie, Rudy. Born and brought up in what was a part of Warwickshire, until the WM was created.

Emile Smith-Rowe just seems destined to be a Villan. Uncle Unai holds more sway than Deano did.

I agree. It never felt like they fully trusted or backed Gerrard last summer so focused on a couple of strategic signings and tried to offload as many as we could.

Carlos has been back on the bench for a while now with no match time, just wonder if the manager is that keen.

I wouldn’t worry too much, when the pairing playing at the moment are keeping clean sheet after clean sheet it must be difficult to even contemplate changing, as you don’t want to unbalance things.

I'll go out on a limb and say our signings will be from Spain, and we will barely have heard of them.

Assuming we keep all those we wish too - Martinez, Luiz and Watkins most especially, and Carlos is real deal,  then key shopping items

1) Backup GK - maybe 2
2) Right Back
3) Midifelder to compete with current crop
4) Quality Gakpo type Forward - Coutinho and Bailey aren't at our races.
