What’s the problem with cash when he’s fit he’s a fantastic right back
Very similar to mereno on the other side

Cash's defending leaves a lot to be desired.

I disagree. He seemed to be adjusting to Emery's methods as well as everybody else before he got injured with Poland. In his last four games, the only goal we conceded was the penalty against West Ham. He was superb against Palace and Bournemouth.

I think Cash just took longer to 'get it'.

He's still only 25 as well. He's an excellent athlete, and I don't think Barnes would have scored had he been up against Cash in the Leicester game for example.

Going forward he doesn't have the pace or tricks of Moreno and his delivery is nothing special. I wouldn't mind him as second-choice if Ashley Young is released but RB can defintely be upgraded.

But the commonly held view about how Emery plays seems to be that it's one tricky full back surging forward and one who stays back and defends. I mean, I've no problem at all if we get another top notch right back in, as we'll then have Moreno and Digne, plus Cash and AN Other, which for me is the perfect balance. I just think Cash is certainly good enough to play his part.

I've been a bit disappointed with Cash as I think I've expected him to show more going forward since he joined, maybe as I had in mind all his assists and goals as a winger at Forest.

I think he's still a decent option but that he needs younger competition than Young and someone who offers things he doesn't.

His assist against Arsenal was excellent and shows what he's capable of. He's got the engine to get up and down the pitch, he just needs to not aimlessly hoof balls to nobody when he does get there. That's all eminently coachable. We can see that just about every member of the squad has increased their levels by 20%+ at least (with the exception of Bailey) so I can't see why Cash won't get there as well.

In his last three games, Matty's passing completion stats were 89%, 93% and 88%. Compare that to earlier in the season when under Gerrard they were as low as 62% in some games. I'd say then, that Cash is showing signs of buying into Emery's total possession game, and his last three games before injury showed he was doing it very well.

Yeah, but it is easier to pass 5 yards to Konsa than it is to pump a 40 yarder to Watkins running towards the corner flag.

Must say I thought Dumfries was the first choice!

They play a back 3 don't they, which would make Dumfries first choice at Right Wingback.

I'd definitely take him, as I've said elsewhere I'd like us to develop the squad where we can flip what we're doing now with a very attacking RB and more conservative LB (and all the shuffling in midfield and attack that would come from that). To that end Dumfries has the pace and delivery to match Moreno and, at 27 is just about the right age to come in and be an immediate asset.

Couldn't link to it yesterday, but here's an image from that Unai Emery article in the Athletic:

Looks to me, and I know this is no great revelation, that a huge propprotion of our attacking play right now is coming from that left hand side, and that Bailey is actually pretty effective when he gets the ball, but the way we're set up doesn't really suit him.

Could see RB being an area we bring someone in for, maybe at the expense of Matty Cash.  Just to bolster that right hand side a bit, so as others have said we can have that flexibility to target either the opponent's left wing or right wing based on which looks like it'll be the most fruitful.

Cash is great, the only problem is his delivery in the final third. But if he's the 'defensive' full-back in any given game, he's going to be fine.

We just need a more attacking right back for games where we're starting Digne rather than Moreno on the left.

Although I suspect Digne might leave in the summer.

Cash has been so frustrating. I'm surprised that for a converted right midfielder/winger, his weakest aspect has been his crossing/delivery.

He's hard as nails at the back, but seems to get a nose bleed when venturing forwards.

Yep, Cash needs to improve his delivery if he's going to have the same impact as Moreno, I like him but he needs to make more of the situations he finds himself in when he gets around the box.
