Can you imagine how difficult it must be for a club like Bilbao to stay competitive with basically only using home grown players

they've got youth recruitment down to a tee

I was going off this - https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/alletransfers/verein/281,  I still don't think that even if they raised approx 100m, that's a lot - they spent 200m on there academy.  I know a lot of it is all this FFP stuff, and biggest clubs findings new ways of gaming it.

We sell Aaron Ramsey for 12m, covers Digne for a season?  I just think that given, probably 50% of transfers seem to end up as failures (for everyone, not just us) - shipping out talent on the cheap before they have a chance isn't actually that shrewd.  If we don't think a player is going to make it then fine - but give them ago as they won't lose their value in 1 season - and could quite possibly increase it.

I'm sure the club knows what it's doing, and maybe some of it is because I am confusing what we have done over the last 2 or 3 years, vs what will do in the next 2 or 3 years.

When is he going play though?

Jacob Ramsey, McGinn, Buendia, Coutinho, Bailey, Diaby, JPB all ahead in the pecking order.

True - but we played 41 games last season - and we have only added Diaby & JPB to that.  The other 5 had some involvement in pretty much every game they were fit for last season.   If we play 50+ games, and with 5 subs, its feels like he could get game time.  Im not saying we have to keep him - but selling him for 12m seems poor business.   Either play him (either to up his value or because we think he has a future) or loan him (again for the same reasons).

The Athletic now reporting the Aaron Ramsey story -

Burnley and Aston Villa are in advancing talks over the potential transfer of Aaron Ramsey.

The fee for the 20-year-old midfielder is expected to be in the region of £12million.

Ramsey spent last season on loan in the Championship, first with Norwich City and later with Middlesbrough, making 29 appearances in the second tier across both spells and scoring eight goals.

Burnley have been busy in the transfer window this summer since promotion from the Championship.

They have made nine signings, including Nathan Redmond, James Trafford, Zeki Amdouni and Dara O’Shea. Michael Obafemi and Jordan Beyer have also returned on permanent deals after loan spells at Burnley last season.

Ramsey, whose older brother Jacob is also at Villa, has not made a Premier League appearance for the club but was a member of the 2021 Youth Cup-winning squad.

We’ve helped enough clubs out by developing their players. If Aaron goes and develops at Burnley and we can buy him back for a reasonable fee then that’s a great way to mitigate FFP and to utilize clubs lower in the food chain. He’s not getting time with us realistically, and he’s probably beyond another loan in the Championship.

Predictions on the buy-back clause?  I’d guess £20m as the purchase price feels pretty low to me considering his potential.

Burnley and Aston Villa are close to a £12 million deal for Aaron Ramsey - with a buy back clause agreed

Burnley are happy to pay the fee - the only hurdle is Ramsey agreeing terms with Villa if he returns to them in the ‘buy back’ scenario

How much would beudia cost?  I'd sell him for 45m I think.

Hes a good player - but just not consistent enough

Even if we do well in all the cups, A Ramsey is not going to get any game time in front of all those players. Its better if he plays somewhere.

I think he has a sa accusation unresolved ...

Gonzalo Montiel being linked, right back from Sevilla.

He looks and sounds like a movie baddie, but if we're going for players named after the place in which they were conceived, I'd rather him than Brooklyn Beckham.

I can’t see that. The clickbate article I read said we’d want north of £50m

£15m was the figure I saw. No idea whether that’s right or not.
