I’d rather we play Rush goalies with Torres in there than Olsen. Our game is based on playing it out from the back and our reserve keeper seem to have  the same footwork as Bosnich but also doesn’t seem to realise he’s allowed outside his six yard box.

I don't understand why Meslier is even remotely highly regarded, he always looks like a bomb waiting to go off to me.

Same here, always makes me nervous watching him so I can only imagine how he makes the Leeds fans feel.

Assuming Martinez stays with us for another season or two, who is even an option to bring in as backup? Any of the proven keepers at top level are either first choice already or want to leave their clubs to be first choice. Is there anyone out there who is proven enough to trust, but also young/inexperienced enough to be happy to only get a handful of games this season?

I would pick literally anybody with two functioning arms and legs over Olsen.

I wouldn't rule out Douglas Bader tbh.
Or the drummer from Def Leppard.

Begovic is out of contract and would be better as a 2 in my view.

Begovic? He's been semi-retired for years, popping up on 5Live etc.

Maybe we should bring Deano's illegitimate son, Tom Heaton back.

37 days to go.

Still very quiet imo.

I'm not saying we won't do much I'm just saying it's quiet.

All the reports I see keep saying Emery wants to have the bulk of signings in before preseason starts, which makes sense, but..... we're running short on time for that to happen.

Man City 3rd keeper Zack Steffen impressed me last season with his loan at Boro. Not sure if he'd take being Number 2 keeper at Villa Park. Paper talk of him going to Leicester and Man City want £10m for him.

EDIT: He's injured and not back until autumn.

Probably the case for all manager, at all clubs though, right?

They'd *like* to have all of their first-choice targets through the door as quickly as possible - it doesn't mean that it's realistic for that to happen.

Yeah, very true. I think if we were planning a massive overhaul of the squad I'd be anxious about the time frame for signings. But I think we'll probably start the new season with the guts of the same starting 11 as we finished last with. So plenty of time to bring people in, and give them time to get up to speed.

Would be good to sign the current first choice keeper at Man Utd :)

I agree that Meslier doesn't command his area as well as someone 6'7" probably should, but he clearly has quick reflexes. But he's I guess unlikely to be happy as a second choice at a ECL club

Meslier is a decent shot stopper but he's a very poor keeper and he got completely exposed in the last month or 2 before he got dropped.

Me neither, any keeper in the top leagues is capable of the wonder saves but it’s the other bits that set the best ones apart, kicking, ability to pass the ball, command of area…when you hear the likes of Cutler dissect a keepers strengths and weaknesses it’s pretty stark…Meslier might develop into a top keeper but the shocking standard of centre halves they’ve fielded week in week out leaves him massively exposed….they seem to hero worship Liam Cooper and he isn’t even good enough for the league he is now to play in
