I'm sure a model could be built where each qualifying group had a mini tournament once the domestic season had ended, end of May/start of June in the odd numbered years. Get them all done in a small window of time and leave the domestic campaign uninterrupted.

Yeah but that makes it seem more like a tournament which dilutes the excitement of Championship and Cup.

I've enjoyed this international break. England have done a lot of early yards in the group that will hopefully mean qualifying is mundane, which is the aim.

Scotland 2-0 Spain was a fabulous watch the other night and I don't hate having a Villa detox for a fortnight. It means I'm looking forward to Saturday rather than it being just another game on the treadmill

England qualifying for a tournament is now always mundane, indeed the composition of the groups appear to ensure it's ever thus. It's precisely this mundane nature of qualification that makes the international breaks such a bore.

So it's Malta and North Macedonia up next but not till June so no disruption to the league. The disruption proper starts up September 9th with the return Ukraine match played wherever. Then, a friendly with Scotland on the 12th.

Disappointed for Watkins not making the sqaud but I do feel Southgate doesn't totally fancy him for whatever reason.
Several Manchester City players will be opting out the match away in Malta on 16th June.
I think Mings who richly deserved his call up could be in contention to play some part if not start that one.

Martinez -Argentina v Paraguay
Pau v McGinn- Spain v Scotland
Cash - Pharaoh islands v Poland

Friday October 13
Watkins -England v Australia
Kamara- Netherlands v France
Tielenans - Austria v Belgium

Saturday October 14
Zaniolo - Italy v Malta

Sunday October 15
Bailey - Jamaica v Haiti
Pau- Norway v Spain
Cash- Moldova v Poland

Monday October 16
Tielenans v Olsen - Belgium v Sweden

Tuesday October 17
Watkins v Zaniolo -England v Italy
Kamara v McGinn - France v Scotland

Cheers FV, a useful summary for this week's Villa-related fixtures. You forgot to mention Alexandria Moreno playing against Poland though.

I'm pretty sure eventually they're changing the windows in first part of the season and they'll be a combined one end of September/October. Bit like last season when due to the World cup there wasn't international break at start of September and instead it was played at end of the month instead.

To me it makes more sense to play 3 games if possible and so you just have two breaks up to xmas rather than have three separate blocks of double headers.

Repeated use of Tielenans? Fits to be fair, he's playing like one.

All I do during International breaks is pray that they are injury free. Would be quite happy if international football ceased.
