I like Cash too. For me he's just the right blend of good defender but also adept at getting forward. Not as good as Moreno going forward, but better defensively. He's also pretty quick. Crossing's usually pretty shoddy, but in Emery's system it's not that important.

I see the Brentford game is on the telly on Sunday at the very sensible time of 4.30pm.  Excellent.  I couldn't sleep when we played Newcastle.  Very selfish of them to play the game at bedtime!

I hope they’re prepared for what the NYT calls ‘dangerous’ levels of heat, in Florida and neighbouring states.

Posted after seeing films of regular Med summer venues bursting into flames.
This seems like a year when temperatures soar above usual levels.

Hope the crowds are well watered, as well!

That used to kill me when I lived in Shanghai. The Saturday 5.30 kick offs in winter meant a 1.30am start over there, but at least I could lie in on Sunday morning. The worst were the Sunday 4pm kick offs as that was midnight in China. Going to bed deflated and trying to sleep at 2am on Monday morning was really difficult. I was too furious to sleep at all after the 2010 Phil Dowd disaster.

I feel you. It’s much the same in New Zealand, but a couple of hours more offset. 3am kickoffs are a nightmare.

We lived in New Zealand for a couple of years and I missed a lot of the Championship games.  There’s a lot of players I can barely remember from those 2 seasons and it’s a massive gap in my 45 years of supporting the Villa.
I did see plenty of the promotion season as we’d moved on by then

Incidentally, is there a NZ Lions group yet?
I realise it couldn't possibly match those Ghana Lions Club blokes for sheer style and commitment

But even so something should be done about this, for the sake of third world equivalence etc...

Indeed. But as I currently live in Vietnam, I feel somewhat conflicted.

Can’t see any details of last night’s match on the AVFC website yet, so here’s my two-penneth. I went to the Hereford FC vs Aston Villa U21 pre-season match at Edgar Street last night. Very competitive match. Good to see the U21s playing the ‘Unai way’. Passing it out from the back, patient build up, etc. Game ended in a 2-2 draw following a late Villa equaliser. Decent crowd (2,324) for a friendly considering Hereford are in the sixth tier of the English leagues. This included an away following of 244 Villa fans. Villa U21s away at Rushall Olympic next Tuesday Aug 1st.

Thanks VillaMart58. Didn't even know they played. The OS isn't great for coverage of the youth levels.

The plan today is not to stay up until 2am on a school night and then wake up absolutely shattered and keep nodding of at my desk on Thursday .

That's exactly my plan, plus pizza. Only I went and shot myself in the foot by staying at my mates till 1am last night meaning I'm f***ed before I even begin.

Busy day tomorrow so I'll only have chance to watch the highlights. Looking forward to being able to watch on Sunday though.

I am on holiday and have cleared my municipal diary for the next few days so another late feast of football is on the cards.
