I drove up from Southampton to Stratford Upon Avon to listen to the  Penerol game on the radio. It was the closest I could get a BRMB signal. Parked up in a Little Chef car park for 2 hours and then drove home.

Now that is serious commitment to the cause.

I remember coming back from the pub, and listening to the Penerol match on my transistor radio.

I was listening on the radio at home. For some reason I remember it being in the middle of the night, but thats probably because i was so young.  I also remember Sid hitting their crossbar at 0-0.

A few of us stayed up all night at my mate’s house. One of them phoned in to Butler after the game.

Blimey, that was a late lock in.

Anyone up for a conspiracy theory as to why some of the players have training gear with their numbers on them, while some don't?

And you're not allowed to say it's because Castore are shit and didn't remember to put numbers on all the gear.

Err, they've bulked up/slimmed down over summer...?

Tielemans has number 8 interestingly.

Some players remembered their kits, some had to have a rummage through lost property or do it in their pants.

The last time i stayed up for a Villa game that late was when we played that team in the Super Cup or whatever it was.

Barcelona.

Penarol?

Yes we played them in Tokyo and it kicked off about 3am our time.

Yep, it's almost as if I deliberately said Barcelona to lightheartedly suggest that Clampy doesn't often get to stay up late (past 10) to watch the Villa. :)

Although we did play Barca in the UEFA Super Cup whereas we played Penarol in the Intercontinental Cup (Toyota Cup).

I thought Penarol was something my urologist prescribes.

Does it really make it smaller if it's too large?

Other than the disappointment of losing that's my only other memory of the game.

The only time I’ve heard Penerol mentioned anywhere is in relation to that game so I was a bit surprised, via Wiki, to find that they are the 3rd most successful side in the Copa Libertadores with 5 wins.
