"...about fifteen thousand of them will remember they support Man Utd after all".

Haha that's very good.

I come from those parts and it's an astute observation.

What a brilliantly cynical preview!
In fact, if there were stand-up comedy based gigs for football fans (yeah...perish the thought, actually), this "set" would go down a storm!

Apart from Blose and Baggies-taunting, I don't recall reading an opposition club have so many blows rained down on them in one article. And such a harmless club, too! Bravo  ;D

For me, they're the most plastic of all the plastic clubs, which is odd as they've actually got a bit of history and have been more or less a top flight club for 50 years.

It was the ground move, the sudden arrival of fans and an away following and Rupert Lowe's delusions of grandeur that turned me I think. And appointing Clive Woodward, twats.

I hate this lot, last time I went to The Dell we lost 2-0 to a couple of James Beattie goals, my previous visit we lost 2-0 to a couple of Kevin Davies goals, our PL record against them is fairly terrible.
A horrible city that's bordering on Plymouth levels of shitness. Be glad to see the back of them.

Did Woodward actually manage them or was he just appointed as a performance coach?

edit: A quick check of Wiki says no he didn't manage them, but, it did remind me of some of the absolute whoppers they've appointed in the past like Dennis Wise, Redknob & Pearson.

Is it still compulsory to listen to Level 42 in Southampton? Town full of jumpers-draped-on-shoulders, deck shoe wankers.

Pompey's miles better.

You just wait until you visit Chichester. Fucking hell you’d think everyone was Chay Blyth.

Chichester is the only town I've been escorted to the edge of by the rozzers. Very keen to make sure we all left. Given we were half a dozen 18/19-year-old, middle class stoners who weighed less than 20 stone between us, I came to the conclusion it was easily the most paranoid snooty place I've ever been. Hampton-in-twatting-Arden with a cathedral - somewhere between Portsmouth and Brighton to buy an ornamental teapot.

I like Chichester.  Years ago had 6 months working there. 6 of us all villa. The pubs we used use to call us the villa renegades when we went in.

It's not a terrible city and also I know quite a few of their fans who are eminently reasonable. Like Plymouth, it got blitzed in the war and the post war planners didn't do a good job on a lot of British cities, Brum included.

It’s less the architecture and design and more the what is there to go there for?

A ferry or a cruise ship out of Southampton.
