I loved TBAR, still do.

The same with "I do like to be beside the seaside" - though not so much "When you're smiling" though I remember singing it back in the day.

The Project B6 lot did a recent poll of a new (old) song and the most votes was for "The Impossible Dream" which is a classic and very appropriate for where we are now.

Trying too hard to get something to be adopted is cringeworthy, though the thought of the Holte End giving full voice to "The Impossible Dream" does make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. UTV.

Need to get the bloke with the bugle back in the Holte End. That used to work wonders .

There was a campaign about this about a decade ago.

https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2011/04/08/check-out-new-version-of-classic-bells-are-ringing-anthem

The bells are ringing for the claret and blue
The fans are singing for the claret and blue.
Everybody is knowing, to the Villa they’re going.
Where the Villa are showing.
We’re the best in the land. Best in the land!!!

We’re congregating for the claret and blue.
The Holte End’s waiting for the claret and blue.
Everybody is knowing, to the Villa they’re going.
Where the Villa are showing.
We’re the best in the land. Best in the land!!!

Miles better than anything people come up with now.

Its a yes from me.

TBAR is a great song as it is totally unique to us. Anyone under 50 and Risso don't seem to care for it much so what will be will be.  I don't much care for the Olez song but we more than any other club belt it out from all stands so I'll go along with it as it's ours more than anyone else's.

Incidentally, I noticed Chelsea fans at the weekend singing "Champions of Europe, you'll never see that" to the Arse fans. Maybe it was them among others who have picked up on the 'Cum by Ya' thing too, they're welcome to it.

Bells is a proper old school Villa song and most of us of a certain age have fond memories of it. Not sure how well it works in 2023 though.

Spot on.

It's not that old school though is it, early 90s saw it's inception I think? maybe it was late 80's.

Much earlier, Bren. I've mentioned it before but we sang TBAR non-stop on the Sutton Lions coach all the way back from Norwich in 84.

Oh and we won..

Pretty sure it goes back to at least the early 70s. I remember Carl Chinn talking about it and saying he couldn't remember a time when it wasn't sung.

Found the video from when they did that version on the steps and it's talked about from the 70s. Couple of mins in for Carl Chinn and then another chap.

Just seen that. Strange one as from 72 until post Rotterdam I don't recall it ever being sang, home or away. My guess is it was obviously sang back in the 60s but disappeared at some point and returned around 83.

All football songs grow organically and fade away.
We don't really have an anthem, but i'm happy with that as long as new songs keep appearing.

I do chuckle at the latest "you've seen the Villa, now f*** off home..". I know it's childish and petty, probably cringe as well, but it's a perfect football song to aim at the opposition, especially when you've won.

I like the simplicity of the tune, the piss take lyrics and it lends itself well to accompanying hand gestures - perfect.

Singing the scoreline seemed to vanish from all grounds at around the same time. At least that's what my memory of it is.

True as is having a proper song for every player and serenading them before kick off where they'd always give a wave to the Holte. I'd hope on our European tour, like most English teams, we manage to pick up a few new tunes to bring back home and adapt.

I too very much enjoy this as someone who's seat is close to the away fans and was getting sick of other fans turning up and having the time of their lives.

I propose we play this at the end of every home win going forward.

Then we could all join it, '(Insert team name) sing, I don't know why, 'cause after the game, you're gonna die'.

Proper old school that, LeeB. ;)
