The reference to Danny Ings coming into the side. Changing the shape to play to his strengths….what is the tactical witchcraft!!

I've just noticed that we've gained exactly half of our total points this season from the last 4 games. That's some indictment of the last fella.

and more than half of our goals.

I saw a Carlisle Villa flag today in the away. Fair play if they came all that way to Brighton!

I don't like those sort of penalties but, based on what's been given against us in the past, I'd expect it to be a penalty if a Villa player that was on the receiving end of that tackle. Been on 3 or 4 other clubs' forums and pretty much everyone thinks it was a penalty and that VAR got its wrong, with the word stonewall being used a lot.
Cracking result though and the table looks a lot better than it did 8 days ago.

Solly March won a vey dodgy penalty at VP 2-3 years' ago (Trezeguet was the defender) so I see this one as one of those balancing-out situations.

Not complaining, we were long overdue a decision and the rub of the green.

Foul count 14 -11
Bookings 2 - 7

Explain that.
Quality over quantity.

Anyone who thinks the Digne March challenge was a penalty needs to go and support their local netball team.

Not even close to being a penalty.

It's great to have bounced back after that demoralising defeat in the week.

That was such an important game for us, to go into the break with a win was massive. Anything less would have be deflating. 12th in the league, 3 points off 6th place, we're now looking up the table rather than what's going on below. It may not have been the greatest game but the team spirit is there, pretty much the whole squad can feel involved and in Uncle Unai we finally have a coach and staff who can bring us into the 21st century.

I'd rather watch Villa in training over the next 5 or 6 weeks than the World Cup. Really exciting to see what he can do with this squad as he gets to spend more time with them.

My take:

Martinez 6 dreadful error, followed by more awful distribution, followed by 4 or 5 world class long balls. He sorted his head out.

Cash 6 Solid

Digne 7 never a pen. And if so, only post-modern weird rules

Mings 7 (first half 4 second half 10) such a strange player - Villa were trying to play it around at the back in the 1st half and not really having the Guardiolaesque personnel to do it well. Mings looked about as comfortable as The Ayatollah Khomeini or Ron de Santis in a brothel - but backs to the wall second half, the guy was first to EVERYTHING thrown in that box! He is who he is and love him for it.

Konsa 7 See above, to an extent

Kamara 7.5 Brilliant work for the goal and great for 75 mins, then understandably tired.

Doug 7 Solid, no blame for me for the first goal, on Emi.

McGinn 6 Poor in 1st half I thought but worked his socks off and his arse shielding in the last 10 helped us see off the game.

Buendia 6 Not at his best, wasteful at times, but the assist …

Ings 8.5 Best game in a Villa shirt. The pen wasn’t the best and the goal was deflected but just thought he was superb throughout, holding the ball up so well and so many clever little passes.

Ramsey 6 A bit below par but no-one gets below 6

Subs

Young 8 A street wise performance

Bailey 7.5 Also street wise!

The others, 6
